View Full Version : WHAT IS THIS PORT!!!!

I just installed this 4bbl manifold and 4350 carb on my '79 chero. There is this port right behind the carb in front of the throttle positioning bracket that looks to be a 5/8 (14mm or 9/16 wide) on the manifold. I thought it was closed but turns out to pull vacuum. This is not on the 2v but the stock 2v's look to have it molded into their production, but not used (it's factory sealed on them). What could this possible be? Should I just block it off with a bolt? If it's emissions I will, but could it be important? She runs fine once I plug it with my fingure LOL. If you need more info to help, please let me know. Also, I need a new choke pull off for this. The parts places around here can't get 'em. I checked mine with a vacuum pump and it's toast.
Thanks In Advance,
J

That is simply an NPT-threaded hole for a vacuum port; if you don't need another vacuum port, you can simply plug it.

JNE, if all else fails I'll take a look at my set up in the morning... too dark and cold out there right now.

HELL YEAH, THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! Thats been what I've been waiting to hear ('er read). Me so rockin' now. But, out of curiousity, do you know why it's on the 4bbl mani and not on the two?
Thanks A Bunch,
J
ps May section has no emmisions testing

My best guess would be that the manifold could go on at least 15 or 20 different AMC models..and just about any year. Maybe a Pacer with a 304 needs another vacuum hole?

I have my brake booster hooked up there.

Thanks Baldy, I bet it is cold up there right now. hat would be appriciate if you could check. It's actually pretty warm right here now but it's not normal. I'd like to be up there around July though. Get's hot here but I do love my warm water boarding though. Mr. Barry, what does NPT stand for?
Thamks Guys,

PS Nothing better than seeing a punk rocker driving these rigs. Old school mech's love it!!!

Its for the choke pull off on the 4350. That is where mine is hooked up.

Not to butt in, but NPT=National Pipe Thread
It is a different thread than say a bolt thread like a 1/4 -20, or a 1/4-16 ( Course thread and a fine thread, respectively)

On mine its for the choke pull off and the air cleaner.

As I recall the choke pull off is not "seal" meaning that is your testing it with a vacuum pump it will not hold vacuum.
