Nice comfy seats with cupholders, stereo system, TRAILER BRAKES (VERY comforting when trying to stop when pulling a trailer load), still working on soundproofing to deaden some road noise...

The crap they sell at Lowe's for the most part...it's pretty cheap. I had some leftover closed cell foam from the last big poker table I built that I used too...that stuff is phenomenal at that job...but it's worse than Dynamat for cost...I only used it because I had a bunch of scraps...

cheap cup holder thing with small storage.. and an am/fm cassette radio. also cb with weather radio, more a necessity back in the day than a comfort i guess.
Upgraded AC (and vents), Pioneer unit with GPS navigation, DVD, ipod integration, bluetooth, Sirius and backup camera, heated seats, cruise control, custom console with cup holders, change holder, overhead console with digital compass, outside temp and sunglasses holder, rear seat DVD system, extra 12v power outlets in dash and cargo area...
Still would like to figure out a way to add auto headlights and wipers and memory seats.

Work in progress... most of it is in boxes on the workbench at the moment.
Here is the dash right now with the F150 AC vents and the build thread is linked in my signature.

Other than a cup holder over the tranny hump what more could you want inside a Grand Wag. They're like sitting in your living room, but your off road. I did put in some sheep skin for the front seats, overkill, but so comfy. I got a new sony stero system for Christmas, slowley installing it a speaker at a time.
The cup holder matches the buff brown interior. O yea, a new matching stearing wheel cover.
Everyone I meet, who has ridden in one back in the day, always tells me how comfortable they were. They just fawn all over it. "A caddy with four wheel drive", they say.
I did have a buddy in need give me a good deal on a full window tint. I have to roll the fronts down when I cruse through town. Full limo black out all around except for the fronts and wind wings. But I bought him the wrong tint for the fronts, too dark to be legal but looks good on a pearl white waggy. :fsj:

Gauges that actually work (Now I can cruise down the road and not wonder if I have fuel or not and get this!! I actually threw away my fuel log book)
2. Overdrive trans - I get on the freeway and dont have to turn 10,000 rpms anymore and vibrate myself to death in order to run at 90mph.
3. In the process of ordering a vintage air system (My ac works but want to have dehumidified air and bi-level control etc.)
4. an alternator upgrade which allowed me to install a really really nice sound system (I am not one who likes thudding bass etc, but I have so many speakers etc now and my music is so crisp and clear like I am sitting in a concert hall.)
5. Overhead console with compass etc was already in mine from the factory, I am about to see if I can open it up though and maybe change some components and make it more high tech.

Hmmm.
- I replaced the rear view mirror with an autodimmer/compass/temperature unit. Between this upgrade and the seats in the item below, I now feel like I'm driving something from the 2000s.
- Put in heated seats... those are sweet and my wife loves 'em so I'm now a happy man.
- Kenwood head unit, Alpine Amp, CD changer, MP3 USB port in the dash, new speakers
- Threw in one of those $1.00 special Wally World consoles on the tranny hump
- Installed two 3-pt seat belt hitches for the kiddies in the rear seat.
- Installed a 12V power jack in my dash for things like GPS/Cell Phone, charging, etc. You could use the cigarette lighter for this but I didn't like the fact that the ash tray was open all the time. Plus, now I can plug in from the console without all of the wires dangling everywhere. Also, the cool thing is that I picked the outlet off of e-bay from OEM Chrysler stock. Soooo it came with that little black plastic cap with the icon of the 12V battery emblazoned on it. Looks like it was installed from the factory.
- Use a windshield mounted portable Tom Tom Go Nav unit.
Things I'd like to do in the future...
- Remove the middle seat up front and custom build a console. However, we have need of carting around an extra passenger every once in a while so the seat has proven useful for now and... who doesn't love that giant overstuffed arm rest? It just screams 1980's excess, so this may never happen.
- Build a custom fit subwoofer enclosure over one of the wheel humps.
- Figure out a way to retrofit a cargo cover without spending a small fortune.
- Fuel injection? It'll never happen but it's nice to think about.
- Wire in the $30 alarm/remote keyless entry/remote rear window system that I bought last year. This may or may not happen depending if I ever figure out the schematics.

I was thinking of make a thick cargo panel. Something that would come
out to the front of the wheel well.

What tranny did you end up putting in?
I ended up using the AW-4 automatic Transmission. If you check the fsj tech discussion recycled j-10 and I put up tons of info on that. Strangely enough reclycled and I were both working on the project independently of one another with no knowledge that the other was doing the same project, and we both live in Maryland.

The vintage air system that I want to use is the MarkIV. which probably wont fit with the dash that I have, but I plan on doing a grand cherokee dash install before I do that.

I can give you pics of the overhead console, it was in the later 89-91 grand wagoneers.

I made a center console to hold the aftermarket stereo, CB and 2 cup holders with a rear storage area. Still need to finish it. When and IF I ever do, I will post up pictures. Would like to build a "carputer" system for it some time.

And, to stay on topic, I added a create comfort: working turn signals.

I actually did recently get around to installing some critter comforts in my Wag, as opposed to the general path over the past ten years of removing them. I visited my neighbor's junk pile and got a rear seat from a minivan and front seats from a Ford Probe. The latter didn't fit well at all, but with a stick welder and enough liquor one can accomplish "la""la""la""la" near anything. Still no radio, door panels, or any of that sort of thing.
Thing is, this was a pretty darn nice low-mileage, one-owner Wagoneer when I bought it. But to make it do what I needed (tow my Airstream trailer and reliably handle the hour in 4-Low that was my driveway) I stripped it like a race car and put back only what was needed to make it work. After buying it for eight hundred bucks, and investing ten or twelve grand, it's probably worth around $500 now, but I wouldn't trade it straight across for a new one.

I would like to see some pics of you guys that installed other front seats and consoles. Wondering if I should find a nice set of grand cherokee seats or just get mine recovered? Would like to get a set from a freedom edition WJ...those things are comfy as could be, and you can't beat "JEEP" embroidered in the headrest!

I have seats from an XJ. Cloth ones, with almost no holes. They're just comfy enough that you don't notice ALL the rough spots in the road :D

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics but here's how I mounted the heated seat switches with my extra 12v outlet in between. Also replaced the stock stereo.
