View Full Version : Custom Bumper Plans - Rear

Got some steel on the cheap from the junk yard, $30 bucks for this load!

Here's my preliminary plan for the rear, not exactly to scale... I'll take the 4x4 section and notch it thru the bumper & frame for the recovery points/mounting bracket made from 1/2" stock. Plan is to bolt it in (why weld?, you can never take it off again) to the frame and into the rear cross member. Add a 2" receiver in the middle and a spindle for the swing arm. Once I get it into position I may add another mounting point in the center to attach to the cross member for some support. Also thinking about adding some gussets here and there for additional strength.

Thoughts?

years ago I made one simular to that on my F-250. I capped off the ends and used the inside as an air tank. very handy! mr haney
