View Full Version : Ok my key is stuck in the ignission... HELP!

I know....sounds nuts... I was told it's a new key... but can't get the dang thing outa the starter!!! GRRRRRRRRRRR :mad:

Obviously it went in so just keep trying to work it out. Maybe some WD-40 or other lube might help. Sorry I don't have greater words of wisdom.

sounds like the switch assy is wore out youll have to pull the steering wheel /the lock plate/turn sig assy and then remove the screw that holds the switch in the colum and replce the switch

If it is still on the ring hold on to the ring with one hand and put a little preesure on it. with the other hand wiggle the switch back and forth. if that dosent work you'll have to pull the cylinder like gsmike said.

Do you happen to have the column with a little switch/lever on the side?

I have the complete oposite problem.
I can't keep the key from falling out of my CJ or Waggy column

mine is the same way monk, i just keep it in my lap or if i am wheeling, in the ashtray

Ditto here cow and monkey! Kinda sad, my keys just fall onto the floor after goin over the bump in my driveway (happens to be a 2 foot drop) But did you know, that if it works, you can start your car without the key? Great fun, unless you fear theft. Dad's 90 Wrangler's the same way. Think he said his 84 CJ did that as well. Luckily mom's 97 wrangler doesn't. ...Yeah, we're a Jeep family!

...But I do have a question... and I apologize for not knowing what it is, but there is an ignition part or something that you guys suggest putting in? Would that solve our problems? I don't know what it is called, all that I think I know of it is, that it helps with starting the car, improving something, along that line. Starting with a "J" maybe?? :(

if you change the ign cyl and key your key wont fall out anymore
