J20 steering box

I read on a post resently about there being some differenced in teh J20 boxes. I have a 76 J20 parts rig and was wondering if the box would be compatable with my 89 GW?

It should bolt in but I think the post 79 boxes are metric O-fitting lines instead of SAE flared.

Correct, take the nut off the pressure line at the box for your old steering box, then cut end off your later model hose, install the nut and flare it with a 3/8" tool. Before you go to that trouble be sure that the splined end which your rag joint attaches to fits your rag joint or be prepared for some swappage there. I think it was '74 that had a larger spline so you are probably ok with a '76 box. I guess the first thing to do would be to measure the end at the cap on the box and be sure it actually is larger than your current box, they often get swapped out.;)
