i had a magna flow muffler put on about a year ago. what i am running is a 2.5in exhuast pipe all the way around, not cat, but i just noticed the muffler's exit and entry is 3in in diameter. i figured when they put it one they would have had the same diameter all the way through. do i need to change the tailpipe to a 3in?

what effects will this have on my jeep? i am pleased right now with it, but it makes no sense to me to have the middle of the exhuast to be wider than the exit and entry pieces. am i missing something? thanks for your time

Not sure if it will hurt or help anything being "embiggened" in the middle. If you DO put 3" pipe aft of the muffler, you will have a slightly louder sound, it will slightly free up flow, but I don't think noticeably. YOU WILL NOT LOSE POWER with bigger pipe, unless you have a sensor in the exhaust that has something to do with fuel air flow regulation, etc. and you don't! If you did, it would sense less pressure and the mess with the fuel air inlet speed and all that computer controlled GUCK...Non sensored engines can run 2" pipe and make 300hp at 5000rpm, and 3" pipe just expands the power band higher in the rpm range (I believe I'm reading this right)...according to "The Great Manifold Bolt-on!" by Edelbrock Corp.
