I just got my first old FSJ recently and am trying to get it pieced together and road worthy. This place has been a wealth of info for me so far. Could someone please explain just exactly what the "emergency drive" on the quadratrac t-case is and does? Is it a high/low range switch or a 2wd/4wd switch or something else? Thanks in advance.

It locks out the center differential in the transfer case, delivering equal power to both axles. If you have the low range option it will be a flag shifter on the drivers side of the tranny hump by the front seat. The Q-trac is a full time system, unless it has been converted to part time.
Serves the same basic function as the "loc" positions in the old GM/Ford/Dodge full time NP203 transfer cases from the mid 70's.

She's got the high/low shifter and vac switch on glovebox. I got a q-trac from an old wagoneer to put in it. Previous owner had Chevy 350/th350/np205 combo. The th350 needs rebuilding. I'm going back with the Chevy 350, but changing to TH400/q-trac since I've got a good GM th400 already. Would like to go back original with AMC360/th400 since I also have a good AMC th400, but I can't find an good running 360 for decent $$ around here.
