I have not been able to find in my Jeep history books exactly when they first started to prep all metal with saltwater before painting. From what I have seen on this board it might not be exclusivly a willys/kaiser thing? This would explain my factory installed rust problems.

Just curious as to the date.

ha ha

Happy New Year all!

I don't believe the factory installed the rust correctly on my 67 gladiator. Its got a big spot right in the middle of the hood, must have been built on a friday when the rust guy wanted to get home... But from my records It seems as though American Bantam first developed a revolutionary way to apply the rust techniques of the big 3 to their prototype Jeep... It just snowballed from there. But it wasn't until Toyota trucks hit the sceen did we see huge advancements in Bed rust technology!

cocco,

You are right. My rust is not installed evenly either. My 70 must have been a monday or friday job too.

leave it to the japanese to take an American idea and run with it!!
