View Full Version : lift radiator and transmission linkage questions

After installing my 2 1/2" body lift (see my response to "Is it Lifted?") I have a couple of questions. First the radiator. The radiator was in the lower of the two holes before the lift and it rubbed after we lifted one side. We lowered the radiator to the second set of holes (about 1" I am guessing) and it appears to have plenty of clearance. By my calculations it is no more than 1 1/2" high in its orientation to the motor/fan. Is this enough?
My second question has to do with the transmission linkage. I was going to disconnect the linkage before we lifted the driver's side. However, when I went into the house for a pair of green bottles to celebrate lifting the first side, my helper "helped" me by jacking up the drivers's side. When I got back to the garage, he already had one mount on. What damage or problems did he create by lifting the body with all the linkage hooked up and how do I fix it? I know the gas line pulled loose (needs a longer piece of hose). What else do I need to look for? (I know, next time I will send him for the beer.)

I think the only thing you can do is disconnect the shifter linkage then finish the list when connecting the linkage back make sure the tranny is in Park then make sure your shifter is in park and hook it up then run throu the gears to make sure every thing works... Did you lossen your steering column? I had to lossen the bolts under the dash and the ones at the floor after the lift I pushed the stering column as far down as it would go... hope this helps.

It was fun right??? :D

No , we did not loosen the steering column (or anything else). When I asked my "helper" if he heard anything pop or snap when he put the hydrolic jack to the body he said "Yeah, I think so." Where? "Underneath by the engine and a pop in the back". I found that the fuel line had popped loose from the fuel line (hose was to short to stretch the 2 1/2". Now I am left with trying to find out what else, if anything, is screwed up (I REALLY should have sent him for the beers!). Thanks for your input.

Dont forget to check the lo range linkage if you have it.
