does the voltage regulator have anything to do with my engine not starting and not getting any spark?

Nope it doesn't. It's jobis to regulate the charging voltage going to the battery.

Are you sure you have no spark? Did u take a plug out lay it on some metal and look at it while someone else cranked er up? Is the coil gettng voltage? Is the coil getting ground?

Now, should the regulator check out, the battery would be under/over- charged depending, killing said battery. Then, yes, you could pin the blame on the voltage regulator.

the voltage regulator would be way down on my list.first would be inductive pickup since it is closest to heat and vibration and it is the cheapest part to try.then the ignition module, then the coil.could also be a fuse.if you have a voltmeter what does it tell you?

how do I test the inductive pickup to see if it is working?

The resistance should be between 400 to 800 ohms on your meter. This is with the engine off and cold.
