I bought a 73 wagoneer for the working engine but has a wrecked body. It has a 360, th400 and a quadratrack. The 83 is a torque flight 727 and np229. I was looking at the fly wheel side of both of these engines and the 73 looks like it has a spacer between the block and transmission. Will this engine bolt up to my 83 with a tf727.
Any ideas would be helpful? Thanks.

The engine should bolt right up. Just use the torque converter and flex plate from the 83. The 73 has a spacer between the block and the TH400 because the TH400 uses a BOPC bolt patern. But the bolt patern on the block is the same. Now just so ya know...it wont pass smog...as 83 has different smog stuff put on it. 73 has no smog.

Also make sure you look to see if there is a spacer on the crank. For the TF727 there is a spacer and on the TH400 there is not. So make sure you get the spacer to put in there.

There is a bushing in the pilot hole on the crank that was used on the th400 but NOT on the TF727. It is a thin steel bushing that will not allow the torque converter to go into the crank correctly. I just had to take the tranny and engine out of my 88 that some one put in an old engine into but forgot to take the bushing out. They forced it together which seized up everything so that it wouldn't turn over. Now if I could just get that old engine to stop smoking.

I think it is a steel bushing but I don't know how to get it off.

Get a wood dowel rod near the size of the hole. Pack the hole full of grease, wrap a rag around it then smack the dowel with a hammer. Forcing the grease into the hole will force the insert up and out enough where you can grab it with a pair of pliers.
