Spent the day changing plugs and wires, fixing AIR components, flushing the radiator, and finally changing out the 727 filter and fluid. I had been reading a bit on here about frame rust around the gas tank. I'm already dirty, so let's have a look. Man alive! Is there anything to do about this? POR-15 to slow it down? Will it cause any driveability problems, or pose a threat of losing something down the road??

If its around the gas tank skidplate you could lose the gas tank. Just had mine reparied by Auto Rust Technicians in RI in a few spots then undercoated with Por 15. They make a kit. I thought the sway was from bad springs but actually came from the frame twisting from the rot. Fix it while you can before it gets out of control. The PO did nothing so mine was pretty bad.

losing something down the road?? Sure is!!! Your frame!! I've seen them rot bad enough that the frame loses sturctural intergrity and can actually break in half - so be careful.

The kits are replacement frame sections that are sister welded to the existing frame.
Depending on who does the welding for you, the cost can vary, and also varies by amount of existing damage.
I think www.wagoneers.com (http://www.wagoneers.com) has the kit, other places may be cheaper.

I had a metal shop cut and bend a piece for me.I think it was about 27" X 7" They bent it with a 2" lip and charged me $7.I removed the tank to weld it in. smile.gif
