Figure where better to ask a silly question than here. I like doing things different, maybe too different so this is what Im thinking of doing for a snorkle set up.

I will be building a Exo Cage out of 2" DOM tubing. The front hoop will go through the cowl down to the frame on both sides. I was wondering if there would be enough air flow through 2, 2" pieces of tube to feed the carb. The thought is to tie in breather hose to the cage hoop on both sides then open the top to a couple after market air filters. I think I could pull it off as far as looking good. I can surely build it strong enough. Just concerned about the quanity of air needed? I am running a 6 cyl. that might be a help? Any input? :D Any great off road minds want to put in their 2 cents? :fsj: :fsj: :fsj: :fsj:

If you put a filter on each side, and a big enough tube from the cage to the intake, I wouldn't see the restriction. If you were running a hopped up 401 or something, the story would be different, but you should be fine with the 6 cylinder.

The only thing I can think of worrying about is if the tubing ever gets moisture or even just over time, I would think you'd get rust and/or debris directly into your intake. Especially with the welding/grinding/cutting to get it together, you'll get spatter inside the tubulars. They'd have to be really clean.

Good point... I was thinking about running fuel tank sealer through it to give it a nice rust free coating. And for good measure another filter at the carb could work?

The filter should catch any crap that comes out of the tubes. Two 1/8" tubes would have the equivalent of a single 2.5" exhaust pipe. The extra bends would create a bit more drag, so I wouldn't be surprised if you lost a bit of power. Pretty novel idea though.

Or you could have it powder-coated for really sound assurance.

Another filter would restrict it somewhat, but it would be a good idea.

Can they powder coat the inside of a tube?:confused::confused:

I'm 90% sure it can be done.

Seems like a bad idea to me. Figure you are looking at 1 3/4 I.D. x 2.

It would probably run, but would likely cause a lot of restriction, and hurt performance.

If I had a nice stout exo, I would use it to hang a big 3" securely mounted to it, feeding a big canister filter.
