The 79 waggy would be the same. The 78 cherokee would not be.

So....what did they change that year? Emissions stuff?

There are differences at the ignition module and the alternator. The alt is externally regulated, and the brain box is on the pass. side. I'm positive it's this way for 77's, and I'm pretty dang sure 78 were the same. There was a major update (major for this line, anyway) in 79 and then again in 80.

Got all three. 1977 wiring is totally different. Just like Sitting Bull Said. 78 under the hood is the same but the fuses are different under the dash. Wagoneers are the same as the Cherokee.

There was a major update (major for this line, anyway) in 79 and then again in 80.The '78's had the same charging and ignition system as the '79, but the rest of the wiring changed ('78 was a kind of bridge year in this respect). Different fuse-box, different motor-design and wiring setup and switches for wiper motor and power tailgate. Different fuse-box. Different connectors here and there.

As for differences beween the Cherokee and Wagoneer wiring in '79 itself, I believe the only difference is going to be in the taillight circuit.

I put a 258 from a '76 Gremlin into my '79 Chief WT. I used the wiring harness under the hood from my old '75 NT and took the extra wire for the wipers and clipped it into the '75 harness. Works like a charm!

Thanks for the updates guys, I knew there was some differences - but I wasn't even considering the fusebox.
