The last two weeks have been awesome! Here's what I scored for free!

1. An old 5-man football sled from the local high school. All 1 1/2" square tubing. Football coach said I could have it. Plans for it include a ladder and gear rack, including spare tire holder. I just have to cut it up nowhere close to an outlet, so a hacksaw and a battery-powered sawzall have to get the job done. It's a lot of cuts.

2. A 4x8 piece of 1/4" steel. Planning on using this for gas tank skid, rocker guards, and whatever else is needed (and share with friends) if I can get it loaded up without getting a hernia.

3. 4 15X12.50 aluminum wheels and a 15x12.50 BFG Mud Terrain (spare) with only about 3,000 miles on it (from best bud).

Also, my new BJ's gas tank should be in this week, my clutch fork boot came today, and I put in a new shifter boot for my transfer case. I'm hoping that next week we'll start welding:)

Just thought I'd share!

Planning on it. The fun part's gonna be lugging it over the mountain to the in-law's house to cut it. 8 miles of 12+ percent. Should do fine, but it'll be a slooooowww trip.

A 4 x 8 sheet of 1/4" thick steel weighs 326.4 lbs. Just so you can figure out how to deal with it...

Thanks! Not as bad as I thought. Still pretty beefy. If it all works out my rockers will last forever! Any other ideas besides that and a gas tank skid?

That sounds about right, my father in law gave me the same size sheet about 2 years ago...and I realized why it was free when I discovered it was laying outside underneath a truckload of dirt. My come-along and strap were my one true friends that day. 3 hours later I had a new surface for my workbench.

All that steel adds weight, you look'n at any engine mods to help drag it around? weight up high raises your center of grabbity too. might make off-camber trails........entertaining;)

The rear rack won't be very heavy at all. The sled I'm getting the tubing from is about 12 feet long and I can pull it and roll it around fairly easily. I'd say the rack itself won't weigh more that 100-150 lbs, if that. As for the big sheet, a gas tank skid and rocker guards are about it, adding another 35-40 lbs? I don't see how that little bit of weight will require any modifications, and if a waggy can lug an extra 500-600 lbs of sheet metal, seats, and gear, as well as be about as high as my rack will go, I'm not worried about being top heavy.
