View Full Version : 258 oil pan issue

SO i am replacing the oil pan gasket on a 258 straight six in my 1979 j10. I got the oil pan off ,scraped of the other old gasket put the new one on and when i went to put the oil pan back on it doesn't sit flush one side does but the other doesn't i know the pick up tube is close to the bottom but i think its the flywheel cover thats being the issue any advice please respond :banghead:

My guess is the pick-up tube. If it gets jarred at all when you remove the pan, or when reinstalling, it'll give you fits. Best bet is to measure the location then adjust and reinstall. Some shops actually tack-weld the pick-up tube in place once they have it set properly so that it won't come loose or accidentally fall out.
