Hi everybody,

I remember that someone here installed a large gas tank in their wag. (30+ gallons if memory serves me correctly)

I am entertaining the same idea-and I have searched and searched the forums, but can't seem to find the info.

Can someone chime in-who has already done this with their rig?

Mucho thanks!

Some have used the Grand Cherk tanks. I think I remember a Suburban tank also. Both located where the spare went.

My 1st 88 GW has a 33 gal Aero tank that fits in the spot where the stock tank goes. When it was driven more daily, it sure helped get farther between fuel pumps but when gas goes over $3 a gallon I usually only fill it on a pay day. Model 1923A - http://www.aerotanks.com/veh/jeep.htm

Gwinn has one going into his Johnson project. I believe there are a couple other members here using them as well.

Here's a good thread
http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showthread.php?t=60698&highlight=ford+gas+tank

If you tried searching here and didin't find what you need, try searching the site with Google:
http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showthread.php?t=21427

Try "ford gas tank", "suburban gas tank", "replacement gas tank", etc.

My D70 hits my tank...:banghead:They used to list Jtrucks when I bought mine. I think the 40 gal for the back is compatible. Yeah, the 33 literally fills that space between the driveshaft and left frame rail and between axle and tcase. What tank you have in it now Casey?

Stock tank. It hits the skid now and may hit the tank, I'm not too sure until I flex it out. I'm going to run it at ECI and hope for the best.

I'll probably do the 'Burb 40gal tank 'cause there's plenty of room for it and I have one.

I installed a 33-gallon AERO Tank back in 1994, hangs a bit below the frame rails, and is a tight fit replacing the original tank in its original position.

This leaves room for an additional tank under the cargo area at a later time if so desired.

Thanks for the link Flint! That's exactly what I was looking for.

If I added one as an aux, how much of a PITA would that be? 1923A says mods are needed to the hitch, 1924 says additional hardware needed...??

Added: Hey!!! I just noticed these Aerotank guys are in my neck of the woods-a little more than an hour's drive from here...maybe they'd even do an install!?

In my 1974 J-10 I used a 45-gallon E450 van tank with custom straps. For the 73' J4800 I'm using a 40-gallon Suburban tank but I'll have to BFH it near the axle to keep the peace between them.:D
