anybody have some ideas....
it's brand new(4 months) jeep dealer unit, and the geniuses that installed it didn't put the sock on it and it's about 4 inches shorter than it should be , so i fixed that with a hose........

the rinky dink float keeps falling off when I try to reinstall my sending unit(i believe thats why they left the sock off)...I thought i had it on there and it fell off, and i can't get it...

I tried a wire and a magnet...until i couldn't handle the fumes, no longer.....
other than just waiting for it to float by..anybody have an idea how I can get it?

NO...I'm not dropping the tank....

thanks

Sounds like you NEED to drop it out... sorry

are you trying to get it out or get it in?
I had a simular problem with a vw in highschool.
I used a small sucktion cup(bath or rifrigerator type) stuck on the end of a long piece of rod(alum i think) and then harponed the darn thing. once i got a finger on it i repositioned the suction cup so that i could put the item in its proper place.
good luck with that one!

yah the one jeep gave me isn't like the one that came off it...
of course "greasy dean" at the local yocal shop never told me about it...I didn't really care as long as it works, ..........

it has a wire that attaches to the the sending unit ..the wire has a float integrated and then it clips into the sending unit...(chrysler magic)

basically this new unit the lever mechanism is in the middle of the 5/16 line(about 3" down from the top) where i believ the old units were an arm out of the top of the sending unit...

anyway , doesn't seem that 'll work for the one i have, but thanks...
