I have a Goodyear brand Engine Stand that I picked up from Sam's Club.
It's rated for 1500#, painted in Goodyear Blue and Yellow and of course, made in China.

While moving it last Labor Day, with a 360 mounted on it, it escaped us, rolled off the trailer and hit the soft dirt floor of my barn.

The "L" brackets that bolt to the bellhousing mounting holes are now bent and the 360 is nose down in front.
The 2 center ones are bent worst that the 2 outer ones.
It's a cheap engine stand, but should I somehow fix these "L" brackets or go buy another cheap Chinese made engine stand?

How would repair these brackets?
Wouldn't paying someone to build four new brackets cost more than a new stand?
Where does a person go to get an engine stand without braking the bank?

I do not fear that the stand will break and drop the 360.
But sure is awkward working on or around it.

I got this one at AutoZone. It's rated at 750 lbs, but I've used it several times with 360's and other engines and it's yet to fail on me. Of couse, I use some precaution while moving it, can you see the tower stand under the harmonic blancer?????

Engine stands are over rated (by the manufacturer). Sure, they'll HOLD that amount of weight (without the steel buckling), but try to wheel it around with an engine on it, and it's like pushing it uphill.

They always feel as though they're about to tip over. I highly modified mine. I added another front crossmember, a diagonal support, and extra casters. It's still not great.

If you have the reciept, take it back. Tell them it's a piece of junk, and that you're lucky that you didn't smash your feet. Those big stores will take anything back.

There's always used engine stands for sale on craigslist.

My local metal recycling yard has 1000 # capacity OTC stands, used of course, for $35/ea. Also has channels added to the bottom so that you can us a tray to catch whatever falls off.

That is one of the most dishonest things to do. If you can sleep at night doing this, I pity you.

If you have a welder I would just suggest fixing the one you have and adding some braces and gussets in weak areas.

I bought on at O'reilly's As I was bolting the upright to the tube that has the casters on it the tube started to collapse. It was rated at 1000#. I took it back. I wasn't going to put my 327 on it and watch it bounce off the ground.
So I went to Harbor freight and got their 1000# Motor stand what a difference, and 30.00 cheaper!!!!

I didn't mean to sound dishonest. I actually misread the original post. I thought that he was rolling the stand around on level ground, and it did a nosedive.

After re-reading,I realized that he was getting it off of a trailer....completely different scenario.

I was pretty much venting, because I've been unhappy with several engine stands. I put a 360 on a 1200 lb. capacity stand from a big box store, but couldn't even roll it on concrete, without it wanting to tip over. It actually started to bend! The next day, it went back.
