I'm going on another 500 mile "journey" to ECI in my Honcho and I think my mileage right now is worse than ever. Engine is a mild 351c, gears are 5:13, tires are now 37's. Last year I believe I averaged 10mpg. Do I re-re-jet the holley 600, look for a factory motorcraft 2bbl, look for a factory motorcraft 4bbl, or other suggestions. Tires last year were 38's, and I upped the jets from 64 to 66 which I'm sure dropped the mileage but I'm looking to recoup some back. I've had good luck with motorcraft 4bbl's but my old one is frozen up right now.

And no, I don't have time to install fuel injection or a diesel, or an overdrive trans.

My personal opinion is that the carb is a small part of the equation. You can tweak and tweak on a carb to your heart's content and you might gain 1 MPG. Most of the other factors are going to work against you though.

i think 10 mpg average is about as good as you're gonna get on that rig.

i think 10mpg is pretty good. with your gearing, mild v8, and 37s and a heavy truck. have you changed anything since the last eci? how do konw you are getting less than 10 mpg?

Only thing I changed was the oil  and the jets in the carb.

I just drove 300 miles a couple weeks ago and it took me about 50 gallons of gas. I was pulling my J-10 bed trailer with a cherry picker and some tools + an engine on the way back. I just thought 6 was a little low.

What if I smooth out the brow and put 60lbs of air in the tires??

I know you said you dont have time, but couldn't you find the setup from a pick and pull and just swap the intake and add the 'putter? Beings that they injected those motors and all, you wouldnt have a lot of tuning to deal with, but then again I dont know Fords....

Other then drive train changes, I dont think you'll get much more out of it and the injection wont make much of a difference either, but you can get into steeper angles with it....

Well, I would like to eventually put the injection on it and an overdrive trans but it will never happen by June 12th. I'm hoping to install an electric fan by then though.

I just did 500 mile Sunday at 11.6 mpg, I still have the stock 3.31's so if you are getting 10 with your gearing and tires that is all you can ask for.
