I had wanted to get my rims powdercoated, but with my current economic downturn that just wasn't feasable. So rather than wait for a financial improvement, I decided to paint them myself. Since I really wanted to powder coat I had a hard time settling for a rattle can job, so I broke out the paint gun for the refinish.

I started off by borrowing a friends sandblaster and blasted the rims to bare metal.

I was especially concerned with rust on the insde of the rims. I did not want leaking tires, so I blasted the insides real good and put on two coats of paint.

Before sandblasting on the left, after blasting on the right.

That filled all the little craters and bumps really nice.

Then I wet sanded the face of the rims really well in preperation for paint.

The rims where then sprayed and let dry for 24 hrs before resanding and apply second coat.

Since as I stated earlier, funding was tight, I broke down and mounted wheels by hand.

This is the intended victim with old rims.

And here it is with the new rims.

Nice job on the wheels. If that Mustang is in your way I'll be glad to take it off your hands.

Those are the type of wheels that came on my 76 Cherokee stock. Are these consider Chevy wheels, and/or there a different in the back spacing.

In 76 there was a greater demand than supply on white spokes and a lot of new FSJs in the J10 and WT Cherokee models to get the Chevy style wheel in white.

I am glad we got that straighten out. I showed the 76 to a guy and told him they were stock.:D
Man I need a sand blaster bad, oh wait I need a good air compressor first.

LOL. That is a very generous offer Headhonco, but for now I will struggle with it where it is. ;)

That is one reason I picked this rim, some Jeeps came with them.
The aluminum rims that came off had the same backspacing as the white rims I put back on at 3 3/4". However since the steel rims (I can't bring myself to call them ch*vy rims) were 1" wider I gained some clearence.

Even though it looks the same at first glance, look at the top at the shackle nut & bolt and you can see the difference.

The real dividend paid off on the front.

With the new rims the tire no longer rubs on the spring at full lock.

Thanks Jayrodoh, that is my grandson Cole. He is a few weeks from his first birthday. He loves to be outside so I take him out to "help" me whenever I can.

I agree with you on both accounts. here is what I used to sand blast the rims.

Thats my compressor in the rear. The orange tank is a volume tank I borrowed from a buddy who has a '88 wag. The yellow tank in front is the sand blaster used which I borrowed from another friend. After the project started, I had a hard time keeping air volume. My neighbor has the exact air compressor as mine, he let me use it and we plumbed both compressors into the volume tank. It is nice to have generous freinds.

Thanks for all the kind words from everyone.

Looks like I finally got this picture posting thing down. Ya'll are right once you get it, it's easy!

They were the OEM std 15x8 wheel for the 1975 & '76 Cherokee Chief & Cherokee "S", and were optional on SWB 1976 J-10's. OEM Part# of 5354774.;)

looks sweet:D . I have a set (thanks Hoot) that I am just wating to get new lug nuts for. Did the same thing as you did, sand blast and paint. Good to see what mine will look like on my 4 door Chero:thumbsup:

Also, these are the real stock Jeep rims, they are different than the Chevy ones, the holes or slots are a larger and further apart then Chevy, they also have the three screw holes for the Jeep center caps, and I think backspacing is also a little different.
