Hi guys,
One of the FSJs I'm looking at has a Quadratrac with the part time conversion kit installed. I have done a lot of reading of old threads about this kit, and I'm still a bit confused.

I know that the old E-drive switch becomes the 2wd/4wd switch. What I can't figure out is if you are in 4wd, does it act like the original/limited slip system, or does it act like the E-drive did with the front and back locked together?

I ask because being in wonderful Wisconsin, we have many days where the roads are partially slippery, partially dry. On these days with my CJ-7, I usually throw the D300 in 4wd and leave it there, rather than get caught on a slippery section in 2wd. Could I still do that with the QT part time system, or would I be risking damage?

Basically, is the 4wd with the kit now an off-road/slippery ONLY system (kind of like having lockers?), or can it be used like any other normal 4wd?

Thanks much!
Chris

The part time kit gets rid of the differential part of the t-case. So it acts like it does with the e-drive engaged.

a
Acts locked like a conventional part time tcase. So no driving on good traction roads in 4wd.

If the PT kit does not have the 16% over drive you can swap in a stock differential and still use the same chain. I have several differentials if you decide to go that route.

Does the Jeep have locking hubs or drive flanges?

Just to be clear, the PT kit is more than replacing the stock differential. The rear output shaft and slider/coupler also gets changed out and a nylon/plastic thrust washer is added.

This is the contents of a kit.

The overdrive uses a smaller sprocket with shorter chain.

Here is a stock arrangement next to a 16% overdrive PT arrangement:

It is not recommended to run the PT kit in 4wd on hard dry surfaces.

I totally forgot the part about replacing the output shafts.
