Fellas, Ive got a question for you here and after spending about 2 hours of searching the subject tonight, Im still no closer to a solution.

After I wrap up the build of the 77 Cherokee in the near future (I promise, its close now), Im going to start the tear down of my '64 J200 currently sitting out at the farm.

Heres the question; is there a reasonable (meaning non-bank account depleting) way of converting the front brakes on my J200 to disc? The PO who owned a scrap yard believed that I could undertake a swap using components from a Wag, however the only Wagoneer I've found as a parts source is the '87 GW that I posted pics of the other day.

I may have a line on another parts source from a friend of a friend in the near future, but is there anything that I can pull from the '87 Wag that would bring me closer to the front disc conversion?

Thanks as always fellas,

Just go to the general tech section and use the search feature, you'll pull up all the info you need.

I would imagine you could use cj parts since your 64 is 5on 5.5 vs. 6 on 5.5 but I could be wrong though sinc I dont know if they use the same spindles and such.

Thanks for the tip Pierce, greatly appreciated man. I hadnt even thought about that and had sort of mentally cornered myself into strictly the FSJ world of parts interchange!

Elliot, I went through the entire tech section and there was a lot of information but I felt like some of it may have conflicted.

Thanks again fellas,

Was it Kaiserman (Thomas) that did this upgrade to his Gladiator? You might check with him.

A very simple approach would be to find a GM or Dodge front axle housing, and install Ford pieces from the knuckle out. Not sure how it is where you are, but here, I could source all the parts in about 10 minutes at one of the local yards.

I suppose it would cost a bit more than the brake only swap(maybe $300 here), but you would end up with a stronger axle.

This gives you an open knuckle axle, with the correct bolt pattern, and any repair parts would be as close as the nearest parts house.

Never done the swap, but I have done it's evil twin sister. (GM 6 lug outers on a Ford housing)
