Anyone have a photograph or diagram of a V8 powered FSJ's engine bay? I need to compare the specs with mine, which has a 258 6.

I am researching putting a V8, preferably a 401, into this Cherokee Wide Track I have. It's beginning to look like getting the drive train components to work together is going to be easier than modifying the engine bay to fit in a V8 capable radiator, and the new battery tray.

Aside from purchasing a V8 powered FSJ, which isn't likely because there aren't any in this part of the country, how else may one modify the engine bay to accommodate the parts?

I am serious about putting in a V8. So it looks like it's time to purchase a MIG welder and an acetylene torch!

No eng bay/sheet metal/inner fender well etc mods needed for an AMC 258/360 swap...go for it. ;)

The engine bays are identical with the exception of the battery tray which I think is in a different spot with the V8s and the core support for the radiator. Use an electric fan and you should be all good on the radiator.

No mods necessary? That's cool. But I must have a larger radiator, hence the need to modify the core supports.

What do people do when swapping in V8s into CJs? Surely they have to change out the radiator and core supports too.

If you can find someone with a V8 core support, you can simply bolt it where your current one is. Else, you can cut and weld it out a little wider. The other thing you need to do is move the motor mounts. Dont remember which way you need to go but others will. I think the holes are already there even. Make sure the drive train works with you axels (what side drop do you have)

Your best bet is to get a core support rear half for the V8. It will make it so much easier. Many junkyards will have V8 wags that you should be able to scavenge one from. The front half of the core support can be modified to go with the V8 rear half very easily by trimming some of the metal on the bottom.

If you need the motor mount towers for the AMC360 motor mounts shoot me an email. I just finished wacking a set off an 85 GW.

You need a picture of how much to cut to get the radiator in. I took an old 360 radiator into a radiator shop with a new 3 core 258 radiator and had them weld the 360 mounting brackets onto the 258 radiator. That way, you don't have to move the battery or core support, although you will still have to cut the support back to move the radiator forward.
