Are there any threads or does any one have any tips talking about removing a J-truck cab?

Easiest way is if you have access to a twin-post lift.
Lifting the cab otherwise is a problem.
Without a lift, raise the cab enough to move the chassis out of the way.

We used a A frame and a chain hoist and an ancient Allis Chalmers front end loader at different times

any idea how much a cab without doors, seats, etc, weighs?

If you have some room, but no lifts or such, you can remove the bed, and walk it back off the rear of the truck. No idea what it weighs, but two or three men should be able to walk it off like that.

Prolly ~350 Lbs., I have one in my driveway... stripped and on rollers.
If you haven't run a search here yet you will likely find several threads on various ways to move them on/off the frame. I've done it by myself a couple times with no equipment other than the wrenches. ;)

My guess would be twice that weight. I had 4 of us remove the cab on my '79. One you get it past the frame it's not too bad. Now all I have to do is make a rolling frame for it and get it out of my backyard.

I've pulled my M715 cab with an engine hoist many times.

A couple tow strap thru the windows, a come-a-long to some solid rafters.
(dang thought I had a pic, but guess not)
This may sound obvious to some, but unbolt the fenders and inner wells first, don't try to lift as 1 unit, it is way to front heavy. Yeah you could run a spreader bar, but that is a lot more work, and puttig it back on gets harder.

Thanks for all the advice. I already have the bed off. I am trying to make up my mind if I really want to take the cab off. I need to fix the floorboards and I am not sure how bad they are. Somebody who had the truck before me just fiber glassed over the floorboard instead of dealing with the rust.

Sounds like the floors need new metal. If you already have the cab off, might as well pull the cab. Then you can strip and re-paint everything.:D
