Well, I got a rough start on this forum, But I'm chugging along..Going to the carb shop today.
I'm also finishing up body work on my rig..doing the last of the bondo, and primer soon. Rather than have the inside of the bed painted, I'm thinking about some type of liner..
I'm thinking a plastic bed liner would be expensive, as far as fitment, special order etc..
Leaning towards
1-spray in bedliner
Or
2-rustoleum bed coating
figure that would be better than rusting or scratching up the paint.
Also any opinions on frame paint...seems like a good idea, for weather protection. I heard POR sucks as far as durability..I'm thinking engine enamel or caliper paint. What do you guys think??

I used a few spray cans of plasti-kote in the cargo area of my waggy and it was a real pain. The nozzles kept clogging something -awful- but once it'd dried you couldn't tell too badly. Managed to get several coats down before the cans finally ran dry, but in hindsight I wish I'd used the roll-on version. I'm satisfied with the product, just not the application of it.

I used Hurculiner in the tup of my TJ. Just scuff it, clean it, and roll it on. It was real simple to do and ran about 75.00 for the whole kit at Wal-mart.
Good luck..:D

Although I cant speak for durability yet. I was very impressed with how well herculiner went on. I rolled it on and dabbed a brush in the tight areas i coulnt reach with the roller. It looks about as good as most other professional spray in liners in my opinion.
Its nice and rubbery too, so stuff shouldnt slide around.

Personally, I will be using LineX on my Cherokee; Very much impressed by this product; it'll be used on the underside and color-matched to the interior of my Jeep.

I used the second skin "dead liner" in my dodge. I have been happy with it. I have used hurculiner in the past... didn't care for how it lasted or wore out/chipped/ tore etc...
Spending the money on a Line-X or other pro level spray in liner is worth it. Hot sprayed liners ARE that much better than roll on liners. I am happy with mine, but it is not a line-x. I have a thread on Pirate with pics of mine, search the user name 95steel for pics.
Line-X is great, I have it on my bumpers, but it's pricey.
One option I'm really looking into is the U-Pol Raptor...have seen some very nice results with that. Search google and you'll find some great reviews and you spray it yourself.

Rhino Liner and Line-X versions of spray are are the best and most durable.

I came across this thread and figured I'd post it up just for some reviews. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=460435

I'm going to look into the herculiner..sounds easy to apply (rolling), I figure I will prime the bed and lay it down..Worst case.I have to strip it off-and go professional. I've heard of line-X, but I need a more inexpensive fix for now, I can always break the bank later.
Thanks for the info

Ive used the roll-on and LinExtreme from Ebay. The LinX is better (hard as nails) and is half the price as having a shop do it. However, get the large kit as the small wasn't enough for my CJ5. Theyre selling 3 gallons for $175. Im going to get the double kit for $300 and do the cab, bed, fenders and lower panels.

You guys really need to check this stuff out, mad by U-pol its called the Raptor kit, and it includes the gun.. I heard about this stuff a year ago over on jeepforum where some of the cj/wrangler guys used it in their tubs.. I got two kits that are tint able to use on my XJ for the roof, and the J20...

Rhino liner for the J20. I would also look at LineX.

I rolled in the herculiner in the Honcho's bed. Just make sure you scuff up the insides real good before you start. Stuff lasts forever.

one thing that i like about herculiner, is if by some freak chance that you actually chip it off. you can purchase a small quart and do a touch-up. i've heard it's hard to get a touch-up done with a professional spray-in liner

I have been doing a bunch of looking, and i am going to go with the U-Pol Raptor kit. Its spray on, and refills are available if you by chance do need a touch up. And the price at ~$110 to the door, gun included, isn't a deal breaker either.

I also removed the seat and the carpet and put Herculiner inside the cab. It helped to quiet the cab and when you put tools/stuff behind the seat they don't rattle or scratch things up.

Rustoleum is the new re-named "Duplicolor." Don't go with this stuff. Not a rough finish at all, and peels/flakes up VERY easy. My dad's '77 Wag we painted with Durabak on the exterior. I have heard that Herc and Durabak are made by the same company. Durabak is basically colored Herculiner. That stuff is still holding strong on the outside 4+ years later, and it's been abused. Best part is you can re-paint it when it fades with regular paint! My dad rattle cans his about once a year to keep it "shiny." www.nonslipcoating.com

I just ended up putting two coats of the Durabac red smooth finish in my bed and the floor of my Jtruck. Well, I'm not all that happy, the finish is inconsistent. It has a translucent effect kind of, in some spots it is ice smooth, in other spots it has a rough finish, almost like mini air bubbles. I was expecting something better. Smooth, I expected smooth, if I wanted a textured finish, I would ahve got the stuff with the rubber granules in it. Overall, I have to say, man, I should have gone with a professional sprayed in liner. :(

Here's what my linex looked like when i got it 4 years ago...

I have been really happy with it. It is one of the more expensive options though.
It has held up great, just slightly duller after 4 years without a garage... It is indestructable as far as wear goes...
