Pretty sure the idea was to keep dirt off the rear window, darn sure was not for traction control.

Probably not, I think the real purpose is to force water into that very well sealed up tailgate which in turn equalizes the rust creation factor we all know and love so well.

It lets you roll the back window down a bit while driving and not DIE from exhaust fumes... smile.gif how convieniant.

Well you could do like Tad would do and use a SNAPRING retainer setup, personally I think thats a lot of work and Dangerous. I beleive hardware stores such as ACE have the Well Nuts needed.

Yes the angle is a bit steep to provide any downforce to the rear wheels when it reaches 100+ mph.
So it's of no use when we take our wags on the circle tracks, road courses, or the drag strips ! smile.gif

The air deflector was offered free to owners with working electric tailgate windows. Too many loyal FSJ owners with typical non-working tailgate window were complaining at the country club that some FSJ's were rumored to actually have working electric gate windows so AMC in fairness to it's life long customers did a sorta recall thing by calling customers up and those with working gate windows got the deflector free no charge and within one season their gate mechinisms were now also crammed full of dirt, mud, crud, salt etc.
The loyal country club folks were happy again... smile.gif

Yep, it's to keep exhaust gases from entering the vehicle when the rear window is open. As far as the water entering the tailgate and rusting it out, there are drain openings in the bottom of the tailgate that are supposed to actually drain the water out of the tailgate. Problem is you have to keep them free of debris. I clean mine out every couple years, same with the rear wheel well drain holes. Try it, it works.
