Warning! Not Jeep Related

Hey everybody!. Wondered if I could get a kick in the right direction on something not quite jeep related... My bro in law has gotten an 84 Fo*d ranger with a four banger in it. Ive been helpin him work on it and took on the job of rebuilding the carb and tuning the little bugger.. Well its a Carter YFA carb, and I know that there has been tons of discussion about the Carter BBD that is used on the fsj's. Question is, I know people are always talkin bout uncomputerizing those BBD's and such.. just wondered if anyone has dealt with those ranger ones, and is that just a one barrel version of that bbd? ...

Of course you must know what I am getting at by now.. (typical Griswald thinking.
Im only a hair away from tearing out all the rats nest of vac hoses and bypassing all those VCO (CTO in our world) and doin the griswald setup like I do to my wag's.

I just wondered how much those carbs were controlled by a computer or whatever.. looks like the only electrical components on the thing were the choke, the throttle solenoid (which I generaly also disable, specially on a manual), and what appears to be an electric pump of some kind (accel pump perhaps or mixture control?).

Ok back to my mad scientist lab, sorry bout the use of the word Ford but I know that amongst us there must be someone familiar with this carb.

Thanx in advance for any pointers..

Jeep used a 1bbl Carter on the 6 bangers that was a YF or YFA(forget which). Think that was basically early 70s. I think Mopar used the BBD on some of their engines as well, so these carbs did "get around" some, and aren't just engine-specific for the most part, BUT, they may vary from application to application(like an AMC TF727 is different than a Chryco TF727, etc.!). Anyway....that's on that part.

Can't help much on what parts are computer controlled etc. on a Ranger. Haven't dealt with them much to know. One of the Ford Boards may be a better place to do some looking, but maybe someone here will have some good advice on that.

I know how to get rid of the computer on a 258, not sure if its the same on ranger or not.

BTW: how have you been? Havent seen you around here in ages!
