So i', driving to work today and the transmission slips into neutral while it still should be in drive, i try shifing from drive to neutral and back, nothing happens, i shift into neutral, kill the engine, restart the engine, shift into drive again, progress as normal. Then after i get out of work, same thing happens, the restart trick works for the first couple of times, eventually, i can't get any foward motion at all, so i pull over, and walk home. Checked my haynes manual it says check fluid level and have a pro check it out, what do you guys think? this happen to anyone? all help is appreciated.

Sounds like your Hayes is right.
Is the fluid dark or smelling burned when you pulled the dipstick??
Do you notice and sliver or particulate matter on the dipstick?? If you drop the pan, is there any aluminum sludge in the pan?? :(
It could be that the converter was crapping the bed on you, that happened to me once with my 727.
Get help bro.

since you dont say what year the truck is or if you have had problems before this im going to guess and say that you should pick up a trans filter and a pan gasket since you will be dropping the pan when you adjust the bands on the 727 (1980->)sounds it has been a while since they have been done but sinse it works when you restart the truck that tells me that the pivot in the rear band has not fallen into the pan yet from being so loose

it's an 83 i just had the tranny flushed and the filter and pan gasket changed about two months ago.

and it did work when i restarted it, for the first couple of times, now it just stays in a neutral state regardless of shifter position
