Hey everybody,

I'm looking for some automatic tranny tools for my TF727. Where are some good sources for tools? I checked my local Sears, but to no avail. I also checked my user-friendly autoparts stores and couldn't find anything there either. Do I need to call the Snap-On guy or what?

Thanks in Advance,
Kong

What tools are you looking for? The only special tools I needed to do my 727 were a dial-indicator (input shaft end-play), an inch-pound torque wrench with a 5/16" 8-pt bit (for the band adjustment), a set of feeler gauges and three 5" C-clamps to compress a clutch-pack and to compress the servos.

For compressing the cluth-pack, I found it easier to place a small board behind the clutch for the head of the C-clamp to grab onto, then carefully tighten down the piston evenly using the three clamps. You just have to do it a little, in order to remove a snap-ring and then again to install it.

But aside from that, oh, and a bearing race/seal-driver, and a wooden frame I made for supporting the tranny when I worked on it, there wasn't any exotic tool used that required going to Snap-On.

I really haven't figgered out what I'm doing yet. I just know I can't get the valve body or the front plate to the bell housing off.

Before you go any further, get a manual for rebuilding the tranny. It will tell you what you need to know. This isn't one of those things where you want to wing it; there's a whole lot of surprises inside!

It's not hard, but it is precise work, to rebuild a tranny.
