With the help of Bill from the Mid Atlantic Full Size Jeep Club, I was able to exempt my GW from state inspection. Bill provided a letter verifying the "collector status" of the Grand Wagoneer. In NJ you can get a exemption from state inspection for such vehicles, I am limited to 3000 miles per year, but that is no problem for me. So now I can at least tool around without worrying about getting a $150 ticket for bad inspection! Funny things happened though, I ripped my pants in the back getting into the car at DMV, and then on the way back to work, ran out of gas, but thankfully had enough momentum to coast right up the pump of the station I was heading to! Then I realized I left my phone at home today! So, thankfully I safely got to my destination! Time to play the lottery!

Here in California The antique status is good only for parades and trailer to shows (so they can charge for tags on the trailer) Stuff used to fall off of smog regs after 25 years but the govenator put an end to that. thanks Arnold.

It was 30 years and that was only in effect for about 3 years. Back to business as usual now. Well we got a newer cut off at least. It used to be 1966 or something close to there.

Yeah now in California the cut off is 1975. 1976 and newer requires smog inspection.
