OK, this is hard to describe:
when driving at @65 mph, the gw bucks like it is not getting fuel,(never enough to slow down, but rpm's drop) like a dirty jet . I ran a thing of cleaner through it, and took the top off teh carb and cleaned out everthing i could get to.
second problem:
driving along at @30 mph, it feels like it is missing, not as much power, sometimes if i let off the gas and then accelerate again it will get better.
i replaced the carb @ 8 months ago (with a holley rebuilt from autozone)to try to solve this same problem, (#2) and it worked, untill now!
Low on cash (buying house), so can't lay out for anotehr carb or EFI smile.gif but i still need to commute 1/2 hour every day!
Help!! i know that there have been a lot of carb questions lately. Thanks Mucho, Scott

Have you checked/replaced the fuel filter?

Yes, the fuel filter is one week old, the old one was full of crap. Also noticed in a few other posts that other people with autozone rebuilt carbs only lasting a year or two. should i find my warrenty card??

You might want to check it again. I don't know about your area but this time of year we get the " good " gas here with the additives in it. The only thing that stuff seems to do is clean all the gunk out of the tank and fuel lines and then plugs up the filters. I've gone through 3 set of filters so far this fall.
If your state uses that MTB or whatever it's called additive your fuel sock in the tank may be melted. That stuff is h*ll on non-metal parts. :(

If your truck still has one smile.gif it could be a converter plugging up.

Sounds fuel related. How much junk was in the carb? If there was very much I would try exchanging it if they will do that, if not its rebuild time. If your old filter was plugged with junk maybe your fuel pickup is getting some restriction as junk plugs it just enough to restrict it some but not stop it.
On the different vein in my 84 had symptoms very similar and after pulling my hair out for while I found the plug wires were aged and causing a problem due to weak spark and crossfiring.

before you take anything apart, try running a full tank of gas with two bottles of gas dryer in it... I run into a very similar problem at least once a winter from too high a water content in the gas...

CHECK THE FUL FILER AGAIN,
IF ITS CLOGGED UP AGAIN YOU HAVE RUST IN THE TANK.
MY 77 CHEROKEE HAD THAT PROBLEM, I WOULD CLEAN OUT THE FILTER ONCE A WEEK,DROVE IT FINE THAT WAY FOR YEARS!! :D

I would have to question that it is Fuel. At 65 MPH and a drop in RPM, Hmmm I have seen everything from bad coil, Ign. modual, to out of time do that. The 30 MPH engine miss is what makes me wonder. Usualy at high speed, carbs do not create problems its getting the revs up, or idle that proves to be hard to get with a bad carb once rpms are up and you have a power problem I always lean toward a ignition problem. My 89 GW the sparkplug wires give off a nice light show in the dark. At about 70 it begins to surge and cut back. I am sure when I change them this problem will dissapear, at times it seems it has quit but picks up and goes. I should change them soon. I get a SHOCK when I get my hand to close to a wire when its running.

Don't mess too much with the carb until you have checked the ignition system.

sounds like ignition to me but one thing that came to mind when trying to nail down a similar problem in the past i discovered a "fluttering" EGR valve, simply disconnect the EGR valve and drive to see if thats the cause, as far as repairing the EGR system goes i'm not sure how an 86 is set up, there could be vacuum time switches and transducers to deal with, if you don't have emissions testing leave it unhooked, good luck hope this helps

Thanks for everybodys input!
The wires and plugs arent't too old, spring i think. They are Jacobs wires with a jacobs system. I am going to pull the gas tank sender this weekend and see what it looks like in there, pickup tube etc. Yes, i need to pass emissions (NY Metro STRICT)
Hopefully i can track this down
Thanks, Scott
