Anyway to get more recline out of the front seats? I'm a good size boy and I need more recline. Don't want to swap out for other seats. Mine are in great condition. I just want my RECLINE. Thanks in advance.

The seat itself is one piece and does not recline. The only way to recline is through the base which actually tilts the chair (not actually reclining it).You could experiment (@ your own risk) by shimming the front of the base or the front of the chair (or both) with washers and longer bolts (grade 8).
Good luck,jim:)

I had an 82 Waggy. Right after I bought it, I thought the Drivers seat sat kinda funny. Took a look at the front seat, and the PO had put a 1" thick block of OAK under each front leg of the seat base. :D I removed the blocks and the seat felt MUCH better.

I know you don't want to hear it, but swapping seats is the only real way to get what you want. You can even mount them on your bases so that you still retain the power option. With a couple of small tabs and two short welds, I mounted some Fiero seat (later took them out for some nicer GW seats).

I second Chevelleguy's opinion. I swapped out my seats for some '98 Grand Cherokee seats from a junkyard. Super comfortable and they recline!
It's a PITA to change the passenger seat though. I had to cut some of the transmission tunnel to make them fit. The driver's seat went right in.

i take it the fsj cherokee seats dont recline? i was told by an upholstery guy around here that they might..... purely based on the fact that a lot of 4 door models dont but the 2 doors of the same car do

Thanks to everybody! I'm going to look a little closer to see if modification can be done. My jeep is a really clean FSJ and I want to retain everything possible. If anybody has any ideas please feel free to jump in. I was hoping somebody had done something in the past that worked for them.
Cheers later

well it seems that over time they recline just fine. maybe if you put your feet on the dash and gave it a little bit of a push it would progress that process

I just did the front seat swap myself and couldnt be happier, as the old ones were in great shape, just to "mushy" and lacked the recline I was looking for, just like you.
I think if you go to the salvage yard and seat in a few different seats, you'll find something you can be happy with, or just sit in your friends' cars and then hit fleabay or Craigslist to look for the year/model youre looking for.
If you DO pull your passenger seat out, hang onto the inner bracket (the short one nearest the trans tunnel) amd use it for the perch on your replacement seat, this way you may be able to avoid a lot of unnecessary cutting and drilling to get it to sit level.
Heres what I did with a set of 2007 Ford Escape seats and after some trimming on the new seat frame, Im pretty darned happy:

My main problem now is that I cant get these seats to fold forward, so my dog will now have to climb over the seats to get in back.

Not sure on the overall construction of the seats, but I would think that the back uprights could be "bent" backward in a slight recline. I wouldn't go too far...and it would be permanent...

I had to do that on a Camaro I had. Seat back collapsed on me going down the road.

This is one of my next projects. 88 GW seats are too up right. Even if its a permanent bend I'll be happier.:)
