Looking at putting in a 5 or 6 point harness in my jeep.

Did a search and, of course, wikipedia came up.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seat_belt

it states:

[edit (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Seat_belt&action=edit&section=7)] Five-point harnesses

Safer but more restrictive than most other seat belt types. They are typically found in child safety seats (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_safety_seat) and in racing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automobile_racing) cars. The lap portion is connected to a belt between the legs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_leg) and there are two shoulder belts, making a total of five points of attachment to the seat. (Strictly speaking, harnesses are never to be fastened to the seat—they should be fastened to the frame/sub-frame of the automobile.)

I thought you wanted to attach the seat belt to the floor or body structure and never to the frame. I 'believed' if the body and frame decided to part ways, you don't want your seat/seatbelt and body being one of the parts trying to keep them together.

If you don't like the Wiki, change it. :D

That is why Wiki is such a POS. People even use that dog for serious techinical data. Sad. How can people not know this?

To the point: In most cases, the seats should be attached to whatever the roll cage is attached to. The harness should be attached to whatever the seats are attached to. Check out NHRA or similar specs for mounting regs. if you want the best answer.
