Throttle cables??

I need a throttle cable for my j-10. I have a 258 and a MC 2100 carb. the old cable was too long and didnt work very well. and it finally broke. Are all the years the same lenght? I would like one that is just about an 1-2" shorter. Anyone have anythoughts??
