I thought I would kick this off. I would like to see our rigs, and know what we need to do to get ready for this trip. I think it is always cool to see what you do and see how it works on the trails for you. Post em up. Here is mine as of yesterday.

I have just dewooded the wag. What a pia, and hurculined in red...it is bright......
I just need to install my gears in the front axle and do my hydraulic steer and a thousand little things. Hopefully I can get the gears taken care of next month.

Nothing special here.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s80/tadsal/DCP_2275.jpg

Need to go through and find the short that took out my brake lights from the April trip, refresh some basic stuff and figure out the clunk/tweak noise coming from the left front when backing up at an angle (probably a sheared spring pin bolt there).

Other than that the last 3 runs have been great.

Probably some new shoes for the rear if I can afford it, 3 years and the welded 14-Bolt has pretty much taken them down to the wear bars.

Topless is a given. When I say one of a kind... I do mean it.:) Along with a few other character adding mods, Johnson has been blended with some great features of the old El Dorado.

Bummer - What is up with that? They just old and worn out?
Right now I am running the backup main springs from the '66, first one replaced after that Silver hole and the second after the local run last November. Probably right around the second drop/bump.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s80/tadsal/Trails/CRockNov08/th_Tad01.jpg (http://s149.photobucket.com/albums/s80/tadsal/Trails/CRockNov08/?action=view&current=Tad01.flv)

I don't think these older springs can handle it anymore.
I'd love to go custom ($$) but it's gonna have to be some off the shelf 2" lift springs for the time being.

Haven't done much to the chop-top in months. Except replace the hitch and x-member which got bent up last year during the rescue effort:thumbsup: .

Putting in the D60 soon, that means swapping xfer cases (to passenger side drop for chevy 60) and new/modified exhaust. But if I had to, it could go today.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s80/tadsal/Trails/MimbresMay2009/01.jpg

Found this when I got home.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s80/tadsal/Wagoneer/01-1.jpg

It looks worse in person, all the previous welds are cracked around the hanger.
I'll be removing all 4 front spring hangers and replacing them with some I make.
http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s80/tadsal/ttsfabworks/StuffIMake/SpringHangers.jpg?t=1243940109
Not just as a repair, I'll be moving them so I can run the longer 74-91 front springs which flex better, are more common and cheaper.

For the time being I'm just going to beat it back into position and secure it with some small welds so I can do some local stuff.

Did some wheeling today. Still have some work to do before Cruces. Major axle wrap up front. Just too soft of springs, so I guess I need to make some sort of axlewrap bar. Anyway here are some pics. I have replaced my old front shackles with cj style boomerang to keep them from inverting....So I had to redesign those quite a bit. They worked great.
I have installed dual power steering pumps. One for the hydraulic assist and one for my hydroboost. I am getting some overheating issues with the hydroboost I need to work through but it seemed to work fine.

Here are some pics.

Finally got around to redesigning my F250/350 shock towers.
Took the piece I cut off last June, welded it to the tower with a small gussett (another part of the tower) drilled the new part to match the frame holes. Now it has 4 bolts instead of two.

http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s80/tadsal/Wagoneer/shocktower.jpg

Also installed a set of longer front shackles for 3/4" more height than I had with the GM rear shackles (which were getting pretty bent up.
We'll see how it handles this week that way. If not I'll switch to the back up set I have for this run.
If they work well I'll add Jaime's set from a few years back to the rear.

Looks like a lowrider with the back lower :(

I don't think I like the longer shackles.
Makes it feel like metal to metal when I hit speed bumps even at 30
I love hitting them at 45+ and not even feeling them.

We'll see, but I am not feeling to hopeful about this.

(BTW: I did see rstep tonight, he can't make 'Cruces)Hear ya on the negative rake. I have the BJs long shackles that give that affect and steering has been a just little wonky since then. Even with rebuilding the front end a couple years ago. It is especially noticeable in curves with the rear auto locker at highway speeds. Planning for SOA and stock springs or stock w/2" AAL for the next phase. Those tires look good, but not so bueno? What is not happy?

Tad

Those tires look good, but not so bueno? What is not happy? Just 5 runs on them @ less than 2K miles and they are already chunking.

EDIT:
Oh, I think I am going to drill new holes up a bit closer on the shackles.
I like the beef but think I will also add in a web like the other ones I have.

Not much going on here (no parts yesterday) so I just dealt with fluids and took a hard hot ride this morning.

The bar for the harness' get into a vibration mode at about 65, so....

Got me an ATF leak.
Looks to be the front output on the 208, probably from that heavy Great Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley Moogley front shaft.
Not like the leak from the recon last year with a large puddle.
I'll toss a seal in the box and ignore it.

Whompaa!
Let's go...

Okay, got so much to do, got so much to do, got so much to do, if I say it more times maybe it will get done while I am at work.

Tad, print off the maps of the area so we can have them on Tuesday and Wednesday before our trail guide shows(Sambo)..although we are really go about getting lost and finding our way. I will print them too so we have two copies!

Does anyone in the group have a gps?
