Hello all,
My has some really bad cancer in the rear quarter panels, including the fender flares. My parts jeep has those pretty much intact, and as a summer project, I was thinking about transplanting those into my jeep. Has anyone ever done this? Any ideas (riveting/welding)?
Thank you......

I had the rear quarters replaced on my 84 GW last year. I ordered the replacements from JC Whitney. Despite what some people say about JCW, the parts fit perfectly. A friend of mine owns a body shop and he welded them in. The job was so good that you couldn't see the weld from the back side either. I would think that if you cut the parts from a donor truck that you risk distorting the metal.
Well, that's my take on the thing - hope it helps.

I would transplant the good stuff to the other jeep, but first what I would do it take the jeep for its last run.
I was told a story by a friend at work he told me he had a 66 wag he got for $100 when it rusted so bad that the fender wells inside the jeep were broken and mud flew in the jeep he said he took the jeep and went for its last run, no windows, bent in all directions bent springs and blown motor... sounds like fun http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
Or you can just donate it to a nice guy http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/smile.gif

Im with gbarrett on that one,
Its only like fifty bucks a piece and they do fit pretty good we did one a few years ago in the shop, butt welded them and glassed what seam there was,the only thing was that the tail light holes were not cut out yet,so you could go either way for the old or new style.good luck and go for it!!

It is a pretty straight forward job and the panels from JC Whitney are pretty good and line up pretty good. If you look at my site I show a few pics of the install and how I did it. I was not worried about beauty as much since I went the durabak route http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Thank you guys. I would fix up the other jeep, but this is MY jeep, and I can't abandon it like that! The problem with the JC Whitney panels is that my jeep is a WT, and most of the panel needs replacing, not just the rear/lower area.
Thanks.

If you have a dies grinder and some fiber disks, you won't distort the metal when you take them from the donor truck. If you use a sawzall...well, let's just say there might be some warpage http://www.ifsja.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
Warpage is more likely to take place when welding them in, not cutting them out.

Thanks Sam (and all). How can I remove the WT fender flares without ruining them?
Thanks again,

JCW offers the wt qtrs but you must reuse the flares. Use cut off wheels on a 4.5" angle grinder to remove the old ones. OR if the other tub is in better shape replace the whole thing.
