Anyone else ever have hood latch issues?

When I got my truck a year ago the drivers latch wasn't catching. About three months ago it switched to the passenger latch. They haven't both worked at the same time since I've owned it. I've never had the hood off, but I have tried adjusting it and nothing seems to help. Anyone every just say the heck with it and go for some kind of hood pins or external CJ style hood latches?

Today was the last straw...I was getting on the freeway and when I was just getting to the bottom of the ramp at about 40 mph the hood flew up. :eek: I need to do something different and fast before I drive it again. Right now it's tied down as a quick fix.

Only when I catch my head on the meat-hook.
I had to oil the catches on the 87 because apparently they weren't closing around the pin.
