...When you're a freaking idiot :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
So... PS went out on my jeep... No big deal fairly easy and cheap to fix and it was 195K miles old...
So I go to the local mcparts store and get a pump (note that I am forgetting hoses AND belt).
After mauling the reservoir slightly since I did not know how to get it off I realize my pump did not come with the tool to put the pulley back ON dispite the instructions telling you to use "the included tool" :banghead: :banghead: (I had rented the one to get it OFF)... So it being easter sunday (no place open) and in a hurry I did what I know to be a bad idea and hammered that f**ker on. Still spun freely and SEEMED ok... Time to put it back together... Oops... No belt or hoses :banghead: :banghead:
Again I am in a hurry, tired and not thinking so cclearly because I have to get home for work on monday and its evening and I am still at the shop 60 miles from home so I have the BRILLIANT idea of reusing the 195 mile hoses in spite of obvious cracks and leaks and KNOWING that PS flluid can cause a nasty fire the the exuast.
Yeah... I got about 8 miles until the old hose (damaged in removal) gave out spitting 32 oz of ps fluid on the exuast manifold.... No fire just LOTS and LOTS of white smoke... Time for the next brilliant idea: KEEP DRIVING WITH NO POWER STEEERING! ("just until I get home"... This turned in to 3 days!). Took it off to put new hoses on... Of course the pump is fried from a combination of hammering and running around with no fluid in it because of course it would have been WAY to hard to take the belt off :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
Sometimes I think this jeep runs IN SPITE OF ME rather than because of me...

I had one get to me so bad (running issues, wouldnt take off from stop) I yanked the engine out and stuffed another one in to cure it. I'm still driving this poor thing with a VERY tired engine...

It gets better: I was eating a pizza while I took a break and made this thread... Afterward I went to put the NEW pump in and guess what?
I had left the little stud it rotates on in the "old" new one when I returned it for the core fee :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
Back to the parts store to get it... I probably need to like... Give up... On life.
Seriously I havn't seen this much fail since... Like... Um.. Ever.

Hey it's just a car. I can think of worse things going on... Like pirates and IED's....... You will get it fixed. Take a few breaths...............

When I was swapping the lift from the suspension to the cherk I was under the drivers door trying to remove the rear bolt from that front leaf. over the last 20 years the thread had developed a nice coat of rust and the PB didnt really make much of a difference.
Its in kinda an awkward position and i had the ratchet on the inside of the frame and a cresent wrench hold the outside of the bolt. I am getting frustrated with the whole job (rust welded spring bushings, hard to reach bolts, etc) and the ratchet slips of and catches my finger between some metal. "#@% @$#$ 1@$##:banghead:
A whole slew of cuss words and frustrated grunts. I angrily start to crawl out from under the rig and foolishly turn my anger towards the rig(because its the GW's fault right?) and i take that cresent wrech and decide i am going to hit the frame to punish my tormentor. Well this idea turned on me real fast. My left pointer finger found its way between the frame and the wrench.
Holy crap it was pain full I hit it hard enough the immediately a huge knot swole up just above my knuckle and it broke the skin on the side of the knot so it was bleeding like crazy..
I had cut this exact spot open when I was in highschool and already had a scar there but now i have a scar on top of that one from this incident.. Now when I feel myself getting that way I go ahead and walk away and crack me open a beer or something. The rig will always win haha:thumbsup:
Sorry for the hijack you just reminded me of this incident.

fyi..you dont need the PS pump to drive it. drain it, leave the belt off and drive it.
Sucks, been there. Stupid don't fix stupid as my pappy used to say. Sometime ya just gotta sit back at stare at it for a bit before touching *anything*

yeah well I have another one for you, well I went to put a new rear main seal in and when I dropped the oil it smell like gas so now I add a fuel pump to the list of things to do. along with a new oil pump because the pressure was low so anyway I put the rear main seal in and put the pan back on and then go to change the oil filter and it is stuck on so I get my bfh and a screwdriver to shove it through the filter but that doesn't work to get it off so after draining all of the oil that was in my filter onto my chest I come up with the bright idea of just taking off the oil filter base and use the vise DUH:banghead: That worked much better anyway I get everything back together and put the fuel pump in and ffire it up my oil pressure guages now read about 50 psi:D yeah. until I look underneath th pickup and the oil is just pouring out from the rear of the oil pan:banghead: I decided to call it a night before I just burned the thing into the ground..So I just thought that I would share so that I could try to make you feel better let you know that YOU ARE NOT ALONE. we all know you pain.

Well... I could not get the damm high pressure hose off so I continued using the old one :banghead: . But on the plus side it seemed in decent shape (much better than the low pressure one... Maybe it had been replaced) and being able to steer again is really nice :drivin: :fsj:
Thanks for letting me vent :)

I KNOW... Thats why I was kicking myself for not simply taking the belt back off (would have taken 5 minutes and haved me $40 on ANOTHER PS pump not to mention the agrivation of redoing everything.

"It's not yours till you bleed on it" I thought you were supposed to bang your knuckles, your head, drop things on you foot, and blame the vehicle our worse yet the helper or tool when you **** up. I love to drill out broken bolts and replace cracked bent or broken parts. (not) But when I do I remember this is a hobby and it is fun. When it isn't I walk away and do something else till I calm down. Then I come back and wonder where the heck did that bolt go or where is that bracket?:banghead:

Haha yeah i just started collected the loose bolts from when i disassembled/reassembled stuff in my plastic center console i have sitting on the tranny hump. I always seem to end up with more bolts than I took out when working on this thing.
Another thing that the GW thinks is funny to do to me is when I am fiddling under the hood, doing maintenance or installing high performance plugs/wires/HEI which I dont really need because the truck ran just fine before, that hook from the hook will occasionally smack me in the head when I lean in and am not mindful of it. Man that hurts and irritates me to no end. It doesn't help that with the lift even at being 6ft tal myself its still hard to reach things in the block

Don't sell FSJ violence short now. I have a reoccurring problem with my drivers window deciding to not work. The first few times I spent several frustrating hours pulling the panel off and testing the wires and the control switch and eventually got up set and took a crescent wrench to the window motor for a few stress relieving smacks(maybe i should stay away from crescent wrenches ) and low and behold the dang thing decided to work.
Score 1 for violence solving problems.:fsj:
Sounds like a normal day to me. :(

Welcome to my world :D
Even the smallest things can cause the biggest problems.
One day while trying to modify the hood release on the Junkyard Dog I got FSJ stupid and punched a small hole in the radiator. I have no idea how I resisted taking a hammer to the radiator, I usually don't have that kind of self control. Long story short, radiator can't be fixed (it was pretty close to trashed before I put the hole in it) and now I'm going to have to replace it.
How about dropping a bolt or nut while working on it and never, and I mean never finding it agin. Stop work, run to parts bin search through various coffee cans looking for a replacement.
I have figured that everything will be twice as difficult as I thought it would to fix and take 3 times longer costing untold amounts of cash more than I budgeted for.
It's a Full Size Jeep Thing...I Understand ;)
