Newbie here. Just bought an 87 wag...have not gone over it but first drive I noticed the I really have to push down on the brakes..is this normal? The steering seems..playful..and I have a valve tick. Push me in the right direction on these?

Welcome.

Brakes were marginal when new but it may be time for some new pads and shoes.

Lifter tick is common with an engine that has been neglected or is high mileage. A few oil changes may help or you may have a cam going flat, in which case you have to replace the cam and lifters.

For the steering, you need to check all the front end parts to make sure everything is tight. The steering on the Wags is VERY light anyway. Many have replaced the box with one from an S-10 or an XJ, I used the XJ box and like it very much.

Thanks chevelleguy

Bought it sight unseen....I'll check the brakes but supposedly just replaced, car seems to wallow like a barge..perhaps new shocks instead of steering issue.
