Tom, where ya been? Almost time for a run before it gets to hot. I've been going crazy here in west Phoenix since the closed the white tanks down.

I've been around. Lost my job a month ago so I've been in conservation mode. I'm not going to run any trails before next fall, but some of the other guys are probably ready for some wheeling before it gets any hotter.

I can relate, I've been laid off for 2 months now....
I'm itchin' to get a run going around here to get the North and Central Jeeps together. I found an awesome trail I want to follow now that I have some lift under the GW. The first time I tried it, I over heated and found a crack in my head. Thats all fixed and I want to go farther now....
Its the trail from Chino Valley to Jerome. It runs through the forest and I've been told theres water holes to play in.
Anyone want to start planning?
Oh, and "hi" everyone!!!!!!

I'm still around, however after moving into the new digs a year ago haven't had a lot of extra time or money for the Jeeps. Never thought of how much work maintaining an orange orchard would be!
Anyways, need to get the old girl through emissions so at least I can get some use out her until I have the time and money to do what I want with her.

Whats up guys, I've been broke after getting laid off, but on a positive note I have plenty of time on my hands. I still don't have a lift yet, but if you're planning on moderately difficult trip I may be in.
Still here and still wheelin' pretty regularly.
I'd love to do an overnighter up towards Jerome.
I'm gonna be slammed for the next 5-6 weeks but after that I'm open until July.

I'm still around. Flying Lady needs an engine rebuild, but I have a baby jeep with a AZFSJ sticker. Its been 25+ years since I've been on the Chino to Jerome road. It was a nice road then. We always went in on the Jerome side and exited the Chino side. Did rabbit hunting on the Jerome side and then watched the antelope on the Chino side. It was a nice day trip. Have been itching to do it again.

Ob-1, I was on it last year and there were spots I was wondering about and scraping bumpers. If you did it in a minivan, I need to learn how to wheel from you....
I started a thread in the events area so we dont tie up this one. All who are interested please chime in.

As someone had mentioned earlier... At one time this was a graded and maintained road, which I have not been on in nearly 20 years. It's very likely it has not seen any maint. for some time...
Back in 1988/89, the road was in pretty decent condition (obviously, since my minivan made it...:p )

After listening to the tales of this road, I'm starting to think there are 2 roads, The one I was on was NEVER graded. It was a moderately rough trail. I'll see if I can find some info on it...

I went with Kieth, 79KP, and we took the family and had a blast. Kieth had a Wells trail book and I thought he said it was the "great western trail" but it was a year ago and I'm probably wrong.
It's in the Wells book. Smiley Rock. If I recall, Jeff, didn't we enter from Perkinsville road and then went to the right? That would have us on the easy section going towards Martin canyon. We would have ended up at Potato Patch campground. So if you go left the trail would be on the easy section all the way into Jerome. No can do, have to save up the bucks to go to Vegas in June.
Yes, we went right...

Pics of the trip...

Az. Hwy says 23 miles for Smiley Rock but not enough detail to see which trail they are talking about...

This one classifies it as a Difficult trail....

Ok so I am starting to wonder if I will be ok on this trail as far as my stock size is concerned. I am up to try anything. The worst that could happen is I have to turn arround and head back down right? lol
I also should get the steering column tightened up and maybe some grippy tires. Mine have some tread left but they look to be street tires. Ill post a pic.

I added your thoughts into the event post so others know. I think were going to do the easy route this trip and do the rough one at a later date.
Being my first get together, I dont want to scare anyone off. I want to meet you guys, since I dont get to the valley to those runs.:D

Hey Howdy Hey! New(ish) to the FSJ World, eventually the Chief will move again under it's own power, as I'm sure most of you can sympathize with, and when it does I plan on going on as many trail rides as possible.
