I recently got my jeep(couple of weeks ago) the gas gauge hasnt worked since I got it. the low fuel light stays on all the time... except recently. for the past few days the needle will move just enough for the light to go off. What does this mean. I was thinking te gauge is prolly bad? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

since you say the light is on i will assume this is on the 86.lift the rear seat and pull the carpet back on the drivers side.you will see an access panel.remove this and check the connections on the sender.chances are the ground has rusted off.worst case you will need to replace the sender.but you may be able to reconnect

Just to expand on what talntar said. There will be two connections. A round post in the center(guage power) and a spade on the outside(guage ground). Pull these two wires and jumper them together then turn the ignition on. The fuel guage should read full(guage is good). After the top connectors are cleaned up and the guage still reads almost empty then the fuel sender has failed. They are available from the dealer.

Pull these two wires and jumper them together then turn the ignition on. The fuel guage should read full(guage is good). assuming that your ground is good.you can ground the power lead directly to the body if you are unsure of the ground wire
