View Full Version : Black Black Cherry VS. Burnt Orange Paint

Millerluck

My mind is starting wonder away from Black Cherry. A Black Black Cherry that's black and shiny most the time unless the sun hits it just right.

VS.

Burnt Orange. I want it to really POP after all the hard work we've put into redoing it.

The Jeep still has lots of black bits and pieces in the interior. Will it look good with black cherry? Or would the black and factory tan colors go better with a Burnt Orange?

Help me decide.

Thanks

Larry

Take a long look at the Inca Gold they used on TJ's for one year only. I think it was used somewhere between 2002 - 2004.

I voted burnt orange. My color is similar...sometimes looks copper (2005 Infiniti color). I have caramel colored interior, couple of black items. compliments it well.

Wow looks nice Rebel.

Can't wait till the wife gets home and show her I'm not that Crazy for even thinking of Burnt Orange.

Feels like it's going to be a taste's great VS. less filling deal.

Hmm... Two-tone would be interesting... Black Cherry is an awful dirt magnet... but Orange absorbs the dirt well... I wonder if you could do Orange below the wood and Cherry above... or if it would clash... hmm... Doesnt seem like it would work...

Yes, thanks!: Liquid Copper (2005 Infinity). Silkens clear coat paint job.

I really like the FJ's Black cherry, if I were to go orange, I would go Corvette orange........Nothing against Krek (I really like his color combo:) ), but I would go black cherry for the sake of being unique. Krek owns orange, cu4whln owns yellow, red mistress-owns red. You never forget their trucks or their colors.

I have the same FJ and the color is "Wild Cherry". I was going to paint my GW the exact same color combo, they would look great together on a trail, but by the time I finish my build the FJ will be long gone. :(

I don't "own" orange... somebody here pained their FSJ a very similar color long before the SuperChief.

I'm not trying to talk you out of it, but the color is overexposed.

I'm with Krek, the burnt orange fad seems to be nearing the played out phase. I'd go with the Black Cherry or that crazy chartreuse green on the new JK Wranglers. I can't wait for somebody to paint an FSJ that color so I can see what it looks like.

I second the green, i tried to get the wife to pick it on her JK. She ended up with black...

When picking a color for a vehicle, I ask myself how long I'm going to keep it. If it were a short timer that I wanted maximum "WOW" factor, I'd go for a current, trendy color. But if it were something I plan on keeping for a while, and keeping in nice shape, I'd pick a more timeless color - so in your case I voted for black cherry.

Think how you'd feel right now if you'd redone a car about 15 years ago and painted it the bright teal that was very popular back then. Even if you took really good care of it, it'd look really dated and old now. Bleh...

Stay away from metallic paint. When you need to repair the rust or the rock rashes, it's a lot easier with solid tones. I just got done changing the color of my Chief from Gun Metal Blue/Gray to California Red. I agonized over the color choice for months when I lived in CA and finally decided on the Metal Gray. Two weeks after getting it back from the painter I saw a red Cherokee and I wanted to kick myself for my choice.

When I moved back to Michigan I started popping rust. Since I didn't feel that I was going to be able to match the spray pattern of the metal flake, I decided to completely repaint it. There are a million shades of red and since my jeep came from Cal I decided on California Red.

In my opinion, go solid, go bright, and don't over analyze.

Fad or not, I've always been a big fan of orange (grew up watching Dukes of Hazzard) . My J10 originally came with white lower level/gold color from trim up and in the engine bay and interior. The copper color ended up not being a large jump in color.

Black, not exactly black cherry, shows dirt super quick. My dad has got a all black (everything...think lightning) Ford dually and is dirty 99 % of the time just from his dirt driveway..even after one trip. Looks awesome clean tho.

With that said for your wag I think Black Cherry would look good tho. Chromeanator's Wag looked awesome as a dark colored rig. Either way a paint job is better then no paintjob

NNNOOOO!!!!

My GW plans are to go with Rescue green or something close with the thin 70's wood grain on the side. Granted, someone else will probably get there before I can..

Dark or Burnt Orange has always been one of my favorite colors.

I think it depends on how well the body work is done.

Darker colors mean the body needs to be in a more perfect condition. A lighter color can hide more imperfections. So from that view point, and only having the two choices, I would say the orange ....

But the cherry looks SOOOOO SWEET ......

Wow...veeerrry nice! The only unfortunate thing about the Black Cherry is that pictures never really do it justice. You have to see the thing in person, in direct sunlight to really get the effect. Then it just blows you away.

When I first bought my Harley, I was sorta disappointed in the paint, as it sorta had a "bass-boat" look to it with all of the metal flake. It didn't take long though, as the color really grew on me.
