After searching a few sites for drums and rotors for my 84 J20, the best price on a front rotors was 111.30 each out the door from Autozone. They have a Durolast name on them with a two year warranty. Any of you guys use there brake parts with out problems. Carquest has them for 120.00 out the door also. I'd normally get them from BJs, but the shipping to Michigan would kill me because of the weight. Any other sources to consider?

wagner would probably be a better brand. not a big AZ believer myself.

Autozone rotors don't last very long from my experiance.

That said, they should have them MUCH cheaper then $111. I picked up a cheap set from them for a Chevy K20 (should be the same rotor as your J20 for around $27 each. They lasted about 2 years.

In fact I just looked up rotors for your 84 on Auto zones website. Thier Duralast 2 year warranty rotor showed up at $40.99 each.

That what I was wondering. I'm sure there must be a differance in the quality some parts. Whats that saying;.....sometimes you get what you pay for!

Did you ask Napa?

RockAuto.com shows several sources well below that. WAGNER Part # BD60427 {Brake Rotor} $43.79. Even with shipping, that will be less than AutoZone.

Take the RockAuto listing to your local independent parts store and see what they will do for you.

Every place I checked, quoted me from 115.00-140.00 ea.
8 lug, 1 piece Hub and rotor assy. This was napa, car quest, BJ's and the zone?

didn't pay attention to the price. but yeah,111.00 each is nuts for rotors.

One peice hub and rotor assembly? J20 hubs are seperate from the rotors and held together by the wheel studs.

Anyway, unless there is something wrong with your hubs, they don't get replaced. Just some new seals, wheel bearings/races and they are good to go.
If they even need that.

yah, that explains the price. you can get just the disc to,and change it out on the old hub.the hubs are most often fine. much cheaper that way. and you don't have to mess with putting the bearing races in the new hub.

You typed faster then me. Press the studs out (Or place a lug nut on them to protect the treads) and smack them out with a hammer. The studs hold the rotor and hub together. Though rust is probably helping at this point.

No need for a photo now! Kaiser...Ristow and everyone else! Your correct. The hub does seperate from the rotor. I feel like an idiot now..! Mine are rusted so bad, there was no visable seam to see. You learn something new every day. you guys just saved me a bunch of money. Thanks for all your help.!!!

yep,it is hard to see on these when they're crusty that they separate.

you experienced on separating them?

Ive got a press and a BFH. I'll use the press to push the studs out, and maybe a wack of the hammer will seperate the two...

I priced rotors for my Gran Prix at the zone and they had two choices, the $19 specials and the $42 good ones. And yes, there was a 1/4" difference in thickness between the two.

I made that mistake about 5 years ago on another vehicle-NEVER AGAIN! I think they make them out of recycled aluminum cans or something...

If you read right on the rotors, it says "Made in China"

I don't know much about the quality of the rotors, I haven't run them or seen the cut-outs. If you go with their rotors, make sure and at least get the Duralast ones. The brake pads are decent if you go with the Duralast Gold Cmax (new line). The Duralast Gold's are pretty good too. Never go with any of their Valuecraft parts though, they are the cheapest priced, and for a reason. All Duralast brakepads come with a Lifetime warrenty. As long as you bring them in before the metal is showing, you can get them swapped out for new ones, free of charge. And make sure you get the $1.19 packets of brake lube, a can of brake cleaner, and some brake fluid while you're at it ;).

Put a set of AZ rotors on my wife's KIA....warped within a week.
AZ told me I installed them wrong or overtighten the lugs and would not do anything about it.

You should talk to the DM. Either that or go back and talk to someone who looks new, they will return anything. Sounds like you talked to some d*** guy. They are covered under either a 1 or 2 year warranty depending on the rotors you purchased. On a lot of the items you have to be careful not to void the warranty. For instance, on fuel pumps, if you don't buy a new strainer with it, voids the warranty.

My parts man built and races a 10 sec AMX.
Its an AWESOME car and he knows what I'm looking for and where to find it. I use the vattozone for little crap, but go to Rodger for the important parts.

Would not go with zone rotors. They worp eash and are just junk. If u have a problem with them they will probably give u a hard time about the warranty. Check with NAPA. Have had good luck with NAPA parts and they might even be made in the USA.

most of them are like this, the DM wont get you anywhere unless you throw a fit

nice thing is, i work for advance as a parts pro, within a half of a day ive had our president email me back personally.....

now as far as napa made in the USA? not likely anymore... and some good stuff is coming out of china, we're doing a lot of business, even moog is and so far i haven't had any rotor returns that weren't straight up user error, trust me, we try and take care of anyone, im not making or lossing any money by warrentying a part, if its bad you get a new part
