I can't get my oil pressure guage to work on my '83 J-truck. I've replaced the sending unit with the proper kind, but still not working. How do I go about trouble-shooting this?

Got the same prob. Haynes manual says to put jumper wire from sender unit to ground. If the gauge reads all the way high then the sender is bad. If it stays the same then use jumper to ground the terminal on the back of the gauge. If the pointer moves, problem is in the wiring. If the pointer doesn't move with the back of the gauge grounded, check for voltage at the other terminal of the gauge, if there's voltage, replace the gauge. I used the sender that was in my 360 because it was newer, but I'll be putting the old sender in tomorrow to see if that works. I also bought a mechanical oil pressure sender and tubing kit, $22. Never did have a lot of faith in the elec sender anyway. Now if they both agree I'll figure that's the real pressure.
