Getting ready to do my fronts and was looking at the new spicer 760's, but NAPA has thier own brand made by Percision. Are they any good? Or should I just go with the spicer 760's?

I've had good luck with the Precision joints; just DON'T use the "off-road" joints. Those don't have the grease-fitting provisions and I used to go through those like they were going out of style. I believe Precision was actually purchased by Timken not too long ago.

RWC,

I just bought a U-joint made by GNB in Japan, it is filled with grease but has a zerk fitting. I can't really say if it's a good or bad thing, never ever had a U-joint go dry on me.

different strokes for different folks
My waggy isn't full-time 4wd so greasable isn't a concern for me. I'd rather have strength than durability.... so I went with 760's... they're not greasable, and so the cross is stronger

I agree with Tuck.

I use the spicer u-joints that have the grease fitting on the cap. I have bought any in a long time. I will see if I can dig up a part number. You get the best of both worlds with these. They are greaseable but the fitting is on the end of the cap so it is stronger.

i would rather be able to grease the joint. i use the cheapo PDQ joints from the 'Zone in my drivesahfts, and cept for the brief spell where i broke several due to my squished axle tubes and pinion pointing staight up,i havent had any trouble with u joints.i would rather grease cheap joints frequently and replace them yearly.a u joint is just not something i expect to last for several years

i use to use the cheap joints in the axleshafts as well, but the 'Zone swithced manufactures or something, and the cheap 297xs wouldnt fit my shafts anymore! so i was forced to switch to the brute force joints.ive so far broke 2 of those(wich are not greaseable,BTW),tho in all fairness im alot harder on it now.

im sure the spicer 760 is going to be one of the strongest joints, tho i dont really know that its going to be enuff stronger than the brute force 297s to be worth the extra $$...

Scotty, You are hard on axle u-joints smile.gif , 2 of the caps cracked on the 760 joint in the passenger side axle when I took you and shambone out for a ride.

The caps did stay in though with the full circle snap rings!

Never had a problem with either style. I prefer to be able to grease them. Though any style of greseable joint will be hollow through the cross. Might be a downfall for the toughest use. I like Spicers the best the Precisions look to be as good though too.

I think the 760's are about the same price as 297's were... I paid $17 something with tax..
