hey how can i get specs on my new process 229. my output shaft oil seal started to leak. hoping that it was going to be a simple fix. HA HA!! the inner bearing set was half empty of bearings and what was left were so chewed up.
after reading some postings: do i need to worry about needle bearing on the rear output shaft housing? or just if i need to split the case( i dont believe i have to here). this might explain why it always CLUNKED! when i shifted in reverse. i cant find any diagrams or specs in my Haynes P.O.S. manual. where can i go online or does anyone have anthing? where can i buy a good book on the nuts and bolts of my jeep and not just a feel good P.O.S HAYNES read?
my thought process goes like this: pull off output shaft cover hope all shrapnel in this cover falls out replace race and bearings installations is reverse of removal, we all live happily ever after.
but i dont have torques for bolts or specs? does napa/smucks have this? ( i personally dont think so on a sunday afternoon)
what am i pay for this... ?if i replace one set will have to replace them all?) right now i belive i will have to wait until monday and go to my nearby six states to purchase one. any thoughts

well now its done. fixed the rear output shaft on the beast. simple fix really but i wasnt sure what to exspect when i tore into it. F.Y.I Haines manual is a P.O.S. it told me to be on the lookout for the felt gasket on the output shaft(gone) but it didnt say a thing about the bearing on the shaft nor the shims either.
i got a pretty cool pic of the bearing....well what was left of it. new oil seal and bearing superglued the felt gasket to the housing and buttoned it all up. took it for the test spin and no speedometer. so i jacked it up and pulled the speedo and out came half the quart of oil i put in there previously. again took it for a spin and still nothing (insert Frustration here). jacked it up again and ther other half of the quart came out. now it works perfect. just in time for the wife to drive it and push me back to the saturn.
Sometimes life just isnt fair.
BTW called on getting a factory technical Manual and one is being sent to me ($35) on CD Rom. VERY NICE

Who did you call to get a factory service manual? I would love to get one of my 86 GW.

the people you would need to contact would be BISHKO AUTOMOBILE LITERATURE 1800-544-3312 or www.autobooksbishko.com (http://www.autobooksbishko.com). the cd rom is very slick no more smudges on the paper. i can print off the task and take it out to the jeep and have my way with it.
