10" is easy to get if you have the know how....
7" SOA and 4" suspension lift gets you 11"

Are you talking about a 10" spring-only lift?

Sorry... WELCOME to the Forums!!! :D
The 11" I refer is in all reality all suspension.... A 10" lift spring would almost be in a 'U' shape and have ZERO flex and ride like a brick...just look at the 4" springs in my sig pic... now move the main eyes up 6 more inches!!!

I spent around $300 for front springs, $130 for shocks, $60 drop pitman arm, had to get brake line extentions, and $20 for the materials I made the rest out of. As for riding on bricks, there are none between my spings and axle. This lift is for the people who believe in working with what you got the best way you know how. Its fully functional and very flexible not to mention affordable. I just felt like fellow jeepers like yourselves might enjoy seeing something a little bit different.
Thanks to everyone with an interest in contacting me.

If you would like to share with the rest of the FSJ crowd, how about posting what you did...with some pic's if you have them.

GW, I got your email and was able to open the ppt presentation. It looked very nice. I do have some questions. I think that a couple of questions are due to the fact that the only FSJ experiance I have is with pre 74 jeeps. They have a slightly different suspension setup. (Springs are mounted along the side of the frame as opposed to underneath the frame as you diagrams indicate. So to the questions
1. I don't see where you indicate what thickness of material you have used.
2. I understand 2 of the holes that you have in your shackles (1 for the hanger and 1 for the spring) I don't see the purpose of the third hole. Actually the third hole in the middle spooks me a tad. After punching the correct size holes you end up with less then 1/2" of meat in the middle your shackle. This seems a tad skimpy, I would be conserned about buckling.
3. I noticed that your sketch is on Texas Tech ASME paper. I assume that you are a mechanical engineering student. (This in and of itself inspires confidence, any competent mech eng can do about anything he wants to. :D (I'm a Mech engineering student senior if you can't tell) (I'm really not that full of myself)  )))) Anyway, have you done any sort of engineering analysis on this setup? Suspension is really important to me, as it is one of the really important things on my truck that keeps death and me at a comfertable distance  . I think that before I installed something like this on my rig I would want to run some numbers and ensure that the setup is at least as strong as the stock setup. I think that it would be cool to do a finite element analysis of the setup. Maybe cosmos for the static situation, and Visual Nastram for the dynamic situations.
4. I can only assume that the front shackle hangers have the upper 3 holes because the stock setup consists of a 3 hole bracket. Am I anywhere close.
5. What did you do about your shock setup? Did you move mounting points or did you get really long shocks. (I don't even know if they make them that long.)
I'm sure that I'll find more questions as I look and think about it more. I really like the idea of making your own lift kit. I really don't like paying people to do something that I can do myself. With the added benifit that I know that what I am building is strong enough to do what I need it to do.
I hope you don't feel that I am being critical at all. I am very supportive and really like the idea.
Oh yeah, what did you use to do your drawings?
Well, I'll let you answer
-pete
Another question, did you have any axle angle problems? I can't help but think that you would have to adjust the angle there.
Better go before I think of something else. :D :D
I'm sorry too, forgot my manners. I have a T1 line & Powerpoint at work.

Thanks... I jarred my memory!!! I do remember you!!! you did email this idea a while back....
WE NEED PICS!!!! Send 'em to me and I'll host them for you... :D
IT looks like a GREAT design and you have proven it's reliability and functionality.
I have questions:
1. Since the rear mount of the front springs are mounted at an angle... do the drop brackets drop STRAIGHT DOWN off the mount or use the angle and drop fwd.... this would push the front end forward being the hard mounting point for the front springs.
2. The shackle design... you show no placement for bushings. As you know, FSJ shackles have the bushings incorporated into the shackle itself... you shackle does not... maybe you need to elaborate on this a bit...
Overall... a GREAT design.... send me the 'AFTER' pics of the lift... front and rear and the stance of your rig now so I can poat them for you....

Hey everyone,
Thanks for the enormous interest. I hope every one is getting the slide show. I'm sorry I don't have any recent pic's, but school has to come first. This just happens to be the time for the third set of exams for which leads into finals, but who honestly cares.
I promise detailed pics of each component, mounted and some articulating shots as well by the end of the month. There will be one addition to the set up and that is additional plates welded across the mounts and the shackles to maximize strength.
I apologize again for no pics, but please send me your thoughts and ideas for those who recieve the slide show. Questions also.
Thanks again,
Grandwagoneer Clay

I have questions too... Not enough information in there...
I also question why you made the dropped mounts out of plate ?steel? Welded to the original mounts. Personally I was thinking of using some box tube or similar to drop the mounts... What about side loads? shouldn't there at least be a brace through the middles?
Are the original mounts able to withstand the loads placed on them by the extra leverage created by the 'drop'?
Andy
