Being new to the Jeep thing I bought a 1987 GW with a NP 208 tc. Then today I found a 89 GW, leather interior and all with what I believe is a quadra-trac tc. I don't have the 89 yet but will pick it up next week. My question is should I think about dumping the QT and install the 208?

I plan on installing a Chevy 350 motor in the vehicle, body lift, SOA conversion, RB's rear shackle inversion, just a start.

Any help would be appreciated.

I perfer the 208 because of the part time and lock out hubs up front. But if you life somewhere with snow or heavy rain, you might want to stick to the QT so you can use it all the time.

I love my part time 208.

89 would be SelecTrac...a full time system. I think NP229. They are tough....worthy t-cases. Are you sure it's a 208 in your '87? I thought they only used Selectracs in those too? If 208, you'd have lockouts.....Selectracs would not....just the inside stuff. Either is capable and worthy. Personally, I like part times, but full times are nice in ways too. If you want to go Chebby power, then make sure you get driver's drop setup for 80+ rigs. Just a bit to think on....if all is in good shape, you've got good units in both a 229 and 208. TAken care of, they'll last quite awhile!

Take care....

The 87 is definatly a 208 unit, I crawled under and was able to read the tag. The 89 is still not in my possession and I have not had the opportunity to crawl under and properly identify that unit. All I could go by was the owner's identification. (He bought the truck for the motor and was selling off the rest.) I think I did well though, the motor out of the 87 and $300.00.

I would go 208 if it were me... but I have only experienced the older QT BW1339 and D20...

Welcome to the forum, and just let me know when you want the kit.... ;)

Make sure to check the info page in my sig.
