Looking at my local yard here and did not find any old GM (Caddy) hydroboost systems available. I noticed that some of the '70s era Lincoln Mark 4s have the system on those big boats. Are they the same as the GM system that RB uses in his writeup?

The 80's GM Diesel pick-up trucks also have the hydroboost.

I would stick with BIG GM products. Not sure the bolt pattern is the same on fords.

Look for the units on Oldsmobile diesel vehicles too. I would also stick with GM products. The master cylinders used on the these will interchange with the Jeep unit. smile.gif Or...if you want...just buy a rebuilt HB from Autozone. You then just have to buy one high pressure hose, a few feet of 3/8" p/s return hose, and a few fittings and you're done.

Remember that the GM Desiels have O-ring type fittings and hose will have to be made... although you may have to make hoses regardless of what HB unit you get... the adapter on the back of your vac booster should bolt up to the HB unit to fit it to the firewall...

I have an extra HB unit from a 1984 K30.... interested? IT's an AS IS deal.... It supposedly worked good prior to it's removal

Trying to buy an 85 K5 Blazer (diesel w/hydroboost). Any problems using that as a donor vehicle?

I got my HB from a late 70s GMC PU. I thing it was a 1 ton crew cab but not diesel. It does not have the o ring hoses but it will need new holes driled in the mounting plate and the brake petal rod will need modifications.

Also the master cylinder size used on the GMC PU is 1.31250", the Cadillac with HB and Most FSJs with PB used a 1.12500" bore. Im going to try the bigger one first and if I dont like it i'll might switch but the HB for the GMC PU has a longer master cylinder push rod and the master cylinder has a deeper hole in the piston, so I would ether need to get a new HB or shorten the push rod.

Thank guys, good information I didn't know.

Sometimes I wish we could post more of this stuff in the tech section for other peoples future reference. RB I may check with you later on your other HB unit in the future if I run out of caddy/GM options. I will now recheck the yard.

Hey maxrad, you know RB's a Jarhead, right? I had to pull his worthless POS rig up a mountain trail last summer with my near-bone-stock J10. Now he won't even come visit us this summer, he's so ashamed! tongue.gif

Here's a good link to a new hydroboost system:
Monsterslayer Hydroboost (http://www.monsterslayer.com/jeep/HydroBoost.htm)

Sheeeooooot, that reminds me of an old joke:

On a dusty August morning, a Marine Colonel looked outside his office and up to the top of a steep hill, where in the bright sunlight he saw a Green Beret standing for no apparent reason. Perplexed, the Colonel summoned a young Lieutenant and ordered him to send a platoon up the hill to see what that Green Beret was doing there.

The Lieutenant saluted, responded with an enthusiastic "Oorah!" and marched a platoon up the hill. From the bottom of the hill, the Colonel could see evidence of a skirmish, a cloud of dust arising from the top of the hill. And a few moments later, that Green Beret resumed his place.

Now a bit concerned, the Colonel summoned a Captain and ordered him to send a company-sized force up the hill. The Captain responded with a crisp salute and an enthusiastic "Oorah!" and dutifully led a company of Marines up the hill. Again, the Colonel saw a cloud of dust and, a few moments later, that danged Green Beret standing at the top again.

The Colonel called a Lieutenant Colonel and ordered him to send a battalion up the hill. The LTC saluted and shouted "Oorah!" and led an entire battalion of Marines up that hill. Once again, a cloud of dust arose at the top of the hill, and the Green Beret returned to his spot.

This time, however, a lone Marine crawled down the hill, obviously scruffed up and weary. He reached the Colonel's feet, struggled to his feet, and raised his arm to salute as though it were his last desperate act.

"What happened, Marine!" barked the Colonel impatiently.

"Oorah, sir," the Marine said breathily. "It's a trick. There are two of them!"

P.S. Conrad and Todd, I'm so **** proud of both of you to be serving in these times. De Oppresso Liber, and Semper Fidelis, respectively, to the both of you. We are truly blessed to have you among our troops!

In 10 to 15 years I should have it done :D .

I wonder if I can fit air brakes from
a big rig to my Jeep..... It will sound
so cool at traffic lights!

Wilk, good luck with the diesel conversion!
Post pics of the project. I was thinking
a Ford Powerstroke diesel would sound sweet
in my Cherokee if it will fit and if I
hit the lottery...

Ralph,

Yes, I know that RB is a Leatherneck. I'm suprised that he can write so well. :D

You have done your time too so quit getting so emotional on us. At least I retire in July while RB has a few more to go (at least I think so, I don't know his retirement year).

Don't forget that I'm shooting for visiting you, hopefully, in June before the invasion if "Planet X" or something doesn't get us first. :D

I am still trying to talk Kim into going.,.. even in her W/T.... I wanna go!!!
